VESO: How Dell Will Simplify Virtualization

To most folks that work with servers and storage on a regular basis, virtualization is a familiar concept. Kevin Kettler blogged about it in the early days of Direct2Dell. For those of you that aren't, it basically allows a customer to partition off subsystems of a server (processing power, memory, networking bandwidth, storage, etc) to perform as a virtual machine to run a unique application or operating system. The benefit is that it provides flexibility and much higher levels of server utilization. Historically, though, it takes some time to set up or to reconfigure virtual servers.

What do we mean by simplifying IT? Take a look at this vlog, where David Schmidt, manager of the Virtualization Solutions Engineering team provides a preview of the demo system that Mark Jarvis and Diane Greene used at VMworld.  See their keynote here (registration required). More details coming over the next few months.

pffft...hardware emulation is the killer for the "servers" be it VESO or tradition.  Just doesn't make sense for Windows shops.  OS VZ for me, costs less, hardware better utilized, etc....it just makes sense.

You can find more information/details on the Veso server, including a close-up photo, on our blog post or

I purchased a dell xps 400 computer and thought that I was getting 18 months interest free.  I paid each month likr I was supposed to and got the final notice around August 10, 2007 in the amouint of $73.63.  I paid the bill which I thought was my final payment, however I received another statement on 9/12/07 that shows my payment but also states that I owe and additional $208.71 in interest.  I talked to someone in customer service and got nowhere.  He stated that the 18 months was up on 8/01/07 and I paid my bill in full on 8/23/07.  I am not going to pay this amount.  The only amount that appears fair is the interest on $73.63 for 21 days.  That amount is all that I will be interested in paying.  You can settle for that or nothing.  My records incicate that I paid the entire balance of $1100.00 in the alloted time of 18 months.
