Kevin Kettler's LinuxWorld Keynote

Video and slides of Dell CTO Dr. Kevin Kettler's keynote at LinuxWorldExpo San Francisco a few weeks ago are now available. In it, he discussed the growing trends towards virtualization, in the Enterprise Datacenter, on Business Desktops, and on home desktops, and his vision of embedding virtualization to make systems "guest VM ready". Based on your voting on IdeaStorm, he discussed Dell's expansion of Ubuntu into the UK, Germany, and France and onto new systems in the US.

so what good is all of that if we dont have a computer to use it for I ordered mine on 7/8/07 and now they tell me they might be able to deliver by 10/05/07?????  that is outragous but then again my money (and yours)  is whats paying for all this maybe they forgot to put enough cash in the production checkbook for this year....if they get enough orders backed up then they can borrow off of them.  Dont know but if I told someone that they had to wait 4 months for a 1700+ product they would go somewhere else.....HUMMMMM

A lot still has to be done to bridge the gap between Linux and Windows in terms of "number of users". I see windows still has the lion share.

Maybe they are sending out "Virtual" laptops???  My 35 day ship date is the 6th (Latitude d630)...think I'll see it on my expedited overnight delivery of the 7th???

I'm not holding my breath...

What Happened to the core 2 duo 2.0ghz???? its not an option no more....

What I don't know about Linux could easily fill the Grand Canyon. That being said, I'm really interested to see if Dell could build up the Linux user base. Options are always good. It makes everyones experience better.
