XPS 700 Motherboard Exchange: What to Expect

As most of you know, the XPS 700 Exchange Program is coming tomorrow. Thanks to all of our XPS 700 and 710 customers who have stuck with us through the journey since last year.

Update, 8/13:  The link for the XPS 700 Exchange Program is now live:

Before we launch, wanted to give you an idea of how the program will work. I'm also working on a subsequent blog post to answer some of the common questions I'm getting from comments and direct e-mails from customers. It will be coming soon. One of the most prevalent ones is when these motherboards will ship. The short answer is that it will take about three weeks from the time you submit your order to when you will receive the hardware kit. Processes and timelines may vary by region, but three weeks is a pretty good estimate.

When the site goes live, I'll include the link in a new post, and will update all XPS 700 Exchange program posts with the link as well. After the site launches, you can go there any time between now and October 13, 2007 to choose the options that you prefer and submit your order.

Here's a flowchart that outlines the process in more detail. Click on the image below for a larger version.

Whats up with Dell, bought a 8250, 5years ago, no problems, sold on dell. So on my retirement and birthday decided to upgrade to the latest and greatest, a 710 h2c on march 9th, what a let down. From the minute I took it out of the box, it was nothing but trouble, finally after hours and hours on the phone with tech support, i called customer service and said I wanted my money back, They immediately offered to exchange my computer, with a refurbished one, I've had this replacement since the first of aug. and it has duplicated all of the same problems of my first 710 h2c except this one doesn't drop the overclocking. If it had not been for C-Net's article on disgruntled pc owners, I would never had known about this upgrade offered to 700 and 710 owners.  My question is why are they charging the 710 owners, I already have a 5000 dollar boat anchor and now they offer an upgrade, which probley corrects all there initial mistakes and they want to charge me for it. I already paid with 6 months of heart ache. NUTS to DELL!!

So where are you guys finding 680i mobos for $140?

Newegg's cheapest is $159 and that one is a lower FSB. The cheapest with 1333/1066 FSB is $200.

 Program Qualifications

All XPS 700 and 710 purchases made through June 30th, 2007 are eligible for this program.

Why the cut-off on the purchase date?  I just bought a XPS 710 from the Dell Outlet in July 2007 - so now I cannot be part of the upgrade?

I purchased my XPS 710 on July 4th, and the qualifications are that the system had to be purchased before June 30th. !! I thought Dell was making process with it's customers. I purchased this system at that time fully expecting to be qualified for the motherboard exchange program, because they stated "ALL" XPS 700 and 710 owners. "Now", on the day of the exchange, there are stipulations?? I'm truley angered by this! So now what does this mean for me? I'm left in the dark really, assumingly ripped off. If Dell would've made this information clear earlier, i bet more than just myself WOULDN'T have purchased the system. Why wasn't this information made readily available before the June 30th? I bet Dell was worried about not selling anymore XPS 700 or 710 systems that's why. I'm so frustrated right now.... Is it even possible now that i can purchase the new mobo at all?? Lionel please resond, help me out on this one. From a long time loyal Dell user...

Posts WereHeld

All the posts from 8am to like 3pm were held up. That is why so many people kept repeating themselves. The action was in the Dell forums today. I signed up at 9am, using the link posted there, for a few free XPS710 exchanges.

Doubt I would pay $250 on the 710 systems. And I think Dell will rethink and let all XPS 700 owners get a mobo exchange no matter when or where it was bought.

Posts: It wasn't deliberate... the delay in comments were just due to me being the bottleneck. Sorry about that.

Can anyone point me in the right direction to find the worldwide website for registration for the XPS 700 exchange program?  I assumed the website was going to be plastered in this site, but can't find it anywere, and last time I checked August 13th was the initial launch right?

Any help would be much appreciated,

Thx... MaxwellSmart86

No update today...?

13th is almost gone in the uk - any update?

XPS 700: What To Expect
Expect to wait until the 14th!

$250  LOL, and some nuts are still posting is an ok price?  you need to get out more, in no way that old 680i cost that much especially being delled. Stop compare them to the top and new ones from asus, evga etc,  those aren't the ones you are getting. Dell most likely will be revision 00.

680! motherboard = $140,  new good case even with PS included = $100

What is the deal?  they probably got 1,000 motheboards that costed them 60 bucks each to make and want $250 for it?  it's simple they want 710 owners to pay for their losses. They are trying to cover all that up by saying you need to check if you are eligible for the uprade. LOL too funny someone paying $250 for a $100 bucks motherboard needs to check if they are eligible for it?  Dell I have heard story about you but this is way too much. 3k gaming machines dell = a joke  and now they need to pay way more to still have old tech in.

maybe try again on the 14th?
business day is now over on the east coast and still nothing?

Let's see it
Ok, where is it? It is now after 4pm.

I think it's cool that dell is working with us on 700/710 issues. I am just wondering, where is the link? Am I missing something?

3 weeks is definitely a quick turn-around.  But....it's almost 5PM eastern time on August 13th and no links to this program to be found...

Where is the URL ??  It is 13th PST.

Here is the link!

http://www.xpsupgradeprogramdell.com/pages/default.aspx

Seems the blog is stuck on sunday!!!

Thanks Lionel, I just signed up. The site is https://www.xpsupgradeprogramdell.com/Pages/Default.aspx in case anyone was wondering.

If we do self-install, are we going to void our warranty?

What's the hold up?

No updates?

UMMM.... I understand if there is a delay, but the fact that nobody is screaming about it makes me think i missed something???!!

Is there someplace else we should be going to sign up?

Wow!!!

Thanks gbamarks and lionel and all the other people who work really hard to get this REAL!

THANKS TO DELL TOO !!!!!!

GREETS FROM CHILE!

Any small change out of ordinary takes ages to Dell.. Look at DELL Latitude D620 bad screen (The screen was sooo bad compared to D600 3yrs old laptop screen) issue.. took them 6months to acknowldge the problem by so-called "Dell Engineers"... 3-4months for Fixing the screen.. 1-2months to actually Send out Replacement Screens... UNBELIEVABLE!!!

Looks like XPS 710 owners are left out on this exchange program .. no pricing details yet.. sooo many updates.. too many repititions .. no new information :(

So looks like 1-2months till you get Motherboard shipped and installed.. Good luck on that :)

The website is live:

 http://www.xpsupgradeprogramdell.com/

I don't see any links to the XPS700 Mobo Exchange form. Are you pushing back the roll-out?

Has anyone heard of the URL to be used?  Also, I saw that someone else posted this question as well, but if we have a tech come do an onsite install, can we do a processor exchange:

X6800 Extreme CPU <-> QX6800 Extreme CPU

if they are the same price?

I found this in Dell's forums:

www.xpsupgradeprogramdell.com

Not sure about its authenticity...

is the mobo exchange website open yet??

It will be $250 for the upgrade for XPS 710 customers.  My biggest issue is that before I actually turn over money, I want a detailed list on what this upgrade paths for this Mobo are (will it support Penryn chips, etc.).

Like any gracious person, I waited a little longer than 12:00:01AM, but there is still no URL provided to get started, now at 2PM EST. Can we expect to see a new blog entry today to provides the launch details? Where should we look? You've communicated everything else very clearly and I thank you for that, in addition to all your efforts to even make this happen. I can understand a delay in releasing this information with all of us motherboard-hungry XPS owners barking at the gates.

Doesn't look it will happen as promised, 13th is almost over here now.

Its 1:05 P.M. EST, do you know where your replacement website is?

so this is what the eye of a hurricane feels like ....

Well it's just past 9am PST so the site should be up soon. Hopefully... lol.

The URL is posted in the Dell Community Forum now.

Halpz! Whar's teh linkz!?

Where's the URL?

You guys need to calm down, I'm surprised you guys didn't complain at midnight.

The link to the upgrade site is...

http://www.xpsupgradeprogramdell.com

Since 710 owners have to pay, this should mean they get higher priority in the order queue right  8-)?

URL????

What is the web address? It is the 13th and I can't find it anyware.

Yep it's 12.45pm in the UK and still nothing, no links to this web site or anything....whats going on

Nikeet Sharma

When is the exchange program going to be launched today? Dell teasing customers. :)

Funny how you did not leave the web site address AND that I can not find it at Dell's main NOR Tech web sites. I'm sure it's there, but darn if I can find it!!!! Thanks for that one!!!

WHO CARES???????????????????????????????????

lol let them wake up and have the first cup o coffe first :P

in france, it's the same

xps 710 this xps 710 that, i think the xps 700 owners should come first anyway we got the xps 700 first and xps 710 owners saw what happen to the xps 700 owners and still got a xps 710 ....... u can wait. I know this is going make alot of you mad, so get over it just like i did when i got my xps 700.

open late and want to close early??? (trying to elimate those 700 owner who is unaware of this and/or forget about the program????? IS THAT RIGHT DELL?????)

DELL LIED, selling their product not as the way they advertised.  and yes. keep informing/argue user that it is 590 not 570 (older model mobo) until one of us rip/open the board... I doubt the exchange program is happenning just to ease out 700 user from the business law suit for DELL

yeah 140 Bucks, for a costom dell board would be too much.

i'm still with the others who say : we have to get it for free too (if we dont want a technican from dell), as the 700 costomers do.

Its now the 13th in USA

Now it is April 13th. Where is it???

Here is a hint dell, people can get a 680i motherboard for $140 dollars.

So with the discount and all how much your motherboard will cost?

can't be more of the regular price of the one with all the features included?

A delled (crippled) motherboard should be a lot less.

What is the URL  ???

i think its on aug the 13th CST NOT UK

soz hit the wrong key :) ment 13th

Web addy anyone??

Its now the 16th here in the UK, what is the web address please?

Can we exchange the cpu, also (I have an XPS 700 with X6800 Extreme cpu)wich is the same price as QX6800?

Still waiting for the price to be announced for the 710 owners?????????

Somehow i get the feeling that were going to sub the 700 owners!

Yep, thats true within 3 weeks new motherboards will probably be announced giving greater support for the new intel processors which I dont think work to their full extent on the 680i.

Thanks guys for keeping us updated, this is great communication.  Three weeks is actually a short period of time and is actually well under what I thought it would take to get the boards from the time of signup.  Once again thanks and can't wait to get this mobo up and running.

Still no price for the xps 710? simply amazing!. I assume that the 710 owners are not limited to purchase tomorrow only or need to fill out any form, as they will not get them free (even though they should), can they buy them at anytime as a regular dell purchase?. If dell asks for like 300 dollars for an already old board (yep it's old already) a lot of people will not be getting it since it won't really be worth it.

Nice post Lionel. Tyvm.

- 3 weeks? that too long to process an order, i can't wait for 3 week for the mobo

- That real said
