Crowd-Sourcing the Discussion @ LinuxWorld

LinuxWorld happens next week in San Francisco on August 6 - 9. As part of our activities there, Kevin Kettler, our Chief Technology Officer will deliver a keynote on Tuesday, August 7, 1:30 PM - 2:30 PM. To augment his keynote, we are asking the Linux community to vote on five potential topics over on the Lightning Rod section of IdeaStorm. Linux community: Please vote by Friday, August 3.

After his keynote, Kevin will address the top two topics as voted on by the community. We'll address the others in Direct2Dell updates coming from me while the show is going on. Later this week, I'll have another blog post that will explain our LinuxWorld activities in more detail. I will update the Linux wiki page here with more details, including scheduled events.

I read the five topics, and there was something important missing:

"Why we only offer Ubuntu Laptops in the USA, not in other markets"

Orhan Tıorak

Have been using DUALBOOT window and SUSE from SUSE9.1 and on.

I prefer LINUX and use it whenever possible.

You already have a better LinuxWorld Keynote than any of these.

Just re-give this exact speech Michael did at his LinuxWorld keynote in 2000:

Dell Uses Linux in Manufacturing
We use Linux internally in our manufacturing operations to efficiently manage the installation of customers' system images. About one million Dell systems have been "touched" by Linux using this process in Dell factories so far this year. The combination of deploying Linux and Dell PowerVault storage worldwide is saving us several millions of dollars per factory per year.

Dell Products Ship With Linux
We're making it easy for customers to get Linux from Dell. The only thing growing faster than Linux is the number of Linux systems Dell is shipping -- shipments of Red Hat Linux increased 500 percent year on year.
Dell is now the No. 2 provider of Linux-based systems worldwide and the first major manufacturer to offer Linux across its full product line.

Just give that exact same speech again -- especially the "across it's full product line" -- and support Linux on desktops and notebooks as well this time as you did back in 2000 again (and yes, that means all models) -- and we'll be happy.

Not only was XPS M1330 delayed, my Vostro 1400 order is delayed too.

This sounds like a monkey business (no offense to the monkeys).

Thats great.  Now please start paying attention to your customers who you  have happily charged for products you know could not be shipped.

Sorry to be off topic, but I recently ordered an inspiron 1420, and there has been a lot of news from other customers about backordered parts revolving the 1420, in particular the LCD. Can you give us a bit of an update about this since I've been eagerly awaiting mine, and I'm sure there are others who are concerned due to the manufacturing constraints.

Thanks.

-Jack.

who cares? Tell us something about XPS M1330 -_-
