I ordered my Dell XPS M1330 on Oct 19 (Matte Black, T5250 Dual Core 2, LED screen, 2GB ram, GeForce 8400M GS, fingerprint reader, 120 GB hard drive, Intel Wireless-N card) and Dell just sent me my order on 3 nov 07 it is pretty ok and no delay in the despatch of my order.  thanks dell.

sorry to bust bubbles. but i got my laptop on time. the only thing that took ages was my messenger bag. which the gave me a hundred dollar credit. i like my computer and will be buying from dell again. everyone was nice to me. customer support and tech support.no one rude. the only thing is that a couple of times i had people who had heavey accents and could hardly understand but got throught it anyway. now i am on my way to a live dell chat to see if i have the back lit led screen.

jrfrogman: Sorry to hear that you still have issues with your replacement system. I'll ask someone from Customer Service to contact you to see what we can work out.

I ordered my Dell XPS M1330 on August 22 (Matte Black, T5250 Dual Core 2, LED screen, 2GB ram, GeForce 8400M GS, fingerprint reader, 120 GB hard drive, Intel Wireless-N card) and Dell just sent me an email that said my order has shipped (9/14)!  The initial estimated ship date was 9/27 with a delivery date between 10/2 and 10/4.  I live in Georgia and it is being shipped from Nashville, Tennessee so it shouldn't take too long to get here.  I've been reading these blogs since I ordered, and I started to get pretty worried about my purchase. However, from what others have posted and in my case, it looks like Dell might have fixed their delay problems.  Now let's just hope my laptop arrives in the next few days!

Hi

I ordered an XPS M1330 on 22 August in the UK and was given an ESD of 8 October. I ordered 2.0 GHz T7300, 2 GB RAM, CCFL screen, 128MB NVIDIA, 160 GB HD, 6-cell battery, crimson case.

My order sat in pre-production for about 2 weeks at which point I called to request if I could add a feature. I was advised on 4 September when I called that they would have to cancel my order and reorder if I wanted to add a feature and that the ESD would be 22 October. Not being too concerned about the feature I wanted to add I left the original order and it moved to production on 5 September and was shipped on 8 September. I received it yesterday in perfect condition.

I know it is tedious having to wait so long and I know it is frustrating for those that have had their ship date pushed back again and again but I would have to say that it is an absolutely spectacular laptop and if you can at all avoid cancelling your orders then do so (go for a refund as compensation for the delay instead).

I would have to agree with Funkatronik who posted on 3 September, it certainly does seem as though Dell have resolved their problems that were causing the delays in the first place and they are now working through the delays.

May be a good sign for others indeed...

EXTREME disappointment..... (having had several good systems from DELL over the years.

Took nearly two months to deliver an Inspiron 1520 and then three weeks with customer services in an attempt to find out why it didn't work. Having been advised by Technical Chat (after about 10 sessions) that the laptop should be returned for refund/replacement, was told by Customer Services that refund is not an option after 7 days (even though those days had been wasted by Dell trying and retrying to fix a problem that didn't appear to be fixable). It is beginning to look like DELL has a support problem. It takes quite a while to get an active session and, in a couple of cases, the session/agent just disconnects for no apparent reason. I am not convinced this is attributable to a comms failure!

Eventually got the laptop returned to Dell and a full refund.

Funny thing is, as an alternate, I was just about to buy and Alienware laptop when I noticed they are owned by DELL. I'm now elsewhere....

could you say what is the real operational time with 6-cell 53WHr Li-Ion Battary?

thank you

I finally cancelled my M1330 XPS laptop, after a faulty one was delivered. I have waited 4 months and the replacement eta is october.

The fact is it is no longer a new laptop, the technology is 5 months old.  My collegues received their M1330's last month and I was unimpressed with them.

The XPS logo on the top is flimsey tin foil and can get caught and pulled off.  This happened to one of the laptops and it looks terrible now.

The dvd rw drive is a slot drive with no emergency release hole.  And all the controls including eject are logical touch buttons.

Despite looking nice I think the laptop is too fragile, 5 months old, too many things to go wrong with it, also gets hot.

I recommend either looking at newer models from Dell if you must, but otherwise Toshiba is well recognised as the industry leader for laptops.

Pay a little more for  Tosh and at least you will see it this side of Christmas.

Typing from 1330
I don't know why I'm different... I ordered my system on 24th August.....I got my laptop on 30th August...I'm not joking... btw mine is a std LCD screen...

Another student...

Well, I don't really have a lot of things to add.

Just another "not so happy" student, who is going to start at university with an  5 year old notebook, because the one he order from dell won't arrive within the next 4 to 8 weeks or so....

Thanks Dell... You're really making things easier...

UK Dell Business Cusatomer

I took delivery of my XPS M1330 on the 30th after ordering on the 9th of July. First impressions was that it looked OK, though the more I look at it the more I like it.

Problem is I had canceled this order and ordered the Sony SZ691 but then it turns up the next day. I have decided to keep the Dell and compare the two but on closely checking my XPS against what I ordered I notice that I have the LCD screen not the LED as ordered, the wireless card is the ABG not the N as ordered so waiting to see if Dell will replace these parts or give me a refund - Dell really need to sort themselves out, this process for me has been nothing but a shambles and hopefully when the Sony arrives later this week that will be as ordered and then perhaps Sony will get all future laptop orders and not Dell.

About to be College Student with no Laptop from Dell!

So this is my first time posting on this website/forum. I understand that everyone's order is late or delayed by a month (for the XPS 1330), as well as mine. I ordered on August 19th, and they said it would arrive the 27th! which seemed early so I got very optimistic. I am typing on my dad's old IBM that is 1.5 Ghz which is ok for Word/Exel/Powerpoint/Internet. But the fact that i expected to start off college with a $3000 laptop, and it be delayed after being willing to dish out 3000 dollars so then i do not have to upgrade for the next 4 years or so. I ordered a 2.2 Ghz Intel Core Duo T7500, with 4 gig's of RAM, and the 128 mb GeForce 8400. So i was expecting the fastest/best laptop for Windows Vista so I could learn to use it before going to college (tommorow). I guess not...I guess I will have to wait another month |September 27th!| for my laptop and learning to use Windows Vista since my college has been Vistafied if that makes sense. So yea great job Dell, apparrently you have made upcomming college kid's life miserable. And I was told that I would not get a student discount, or money back for this huge delay. I agree with Craig, we should get atleast 20 dollars a day for everyday that it is late. I even paid for next day shipping. So much for your PRIORITY customers.

I ordered my 1330 on 27 July with a ship date of 31 Aug.  I have called and they assure me that it will be shipped by then.  I don't think so!  They did offer me $150 rebate once I recieve it.  I will hold off for the next few days to see what happens.  I am looking for $25 a day for every day its late.

Well, Dell may be delaying the laptops, but they certainly aren't delaying getting payment for them!  And I think you're lucky if you can tell that your laptop has been delayed.  In my case, I just keep getting one lie after another.

Dell keeps claiming that they've shipped my laptop and that DHL has lost it. I know DHL has a bad track record, but the rest of my order managed to make it to me. Just the laptop, supposedly lost twice now.

Meanwhile, each time the order is reportedly shipped but I do not receive it, I am both paying interest and falling further down on their list of customers waiting for laptops (due to delays) as they repeatedly enter the replacement as a new order.

And, because they claim they shipped the order, they will not offer a credit back to the original order date, so I am supposed to pay DFS interest for nothing.

Update XPS configuration. I am waiting for that. Hope it will have the best latest graphics card.

Looking through my credit card bill today, I found out that I was charged for the laptop on the day I ordered (July 19). The estimated date of delivery according to the website is 13 Sept. I thought these online sites charge only after they've posted out the items. So before anyone cancels, please check your credit card bill to make sure that Dell hasn't charged you.

Mine was ordered the 29th june... and it has been delayed today until the 10th of october...

First time I ordered something from Dell and last time too...  I will cancel my order monday.

August 21, 2007

Mr. Michael Dell

CEO

Dell Corporation

One Dell Way

Round Rock, TX 78682

Dear Mr. Dell,

I am at my wit’s end on what to do. I am a loyal customer of Dell who has completely lost faith in your organization. It makes me sad to say that customer service doesn’t seem to be a priority for your organization anymore.  As a consumer, I always felt that Dell “had it down”, that your reliability, products and service were an excellent choice for my computer needs. I am very sorry to say that I will not choose Dell again for any computer needs in my household or at my work.

My daughter has gone away to college. I took her this past weekend for a week of freshman orientation with no computer. We ordered a Dell computer back on July 22, 2007.  The first order didn’t go through and was cancelled “by mistake”.  I noticed the order said cancelled two days later by your online service and reordered it again on July 24, 2007. The reorder process took several hours but was finally complete.

At that point there was no indication there would be any problems, even with the initial hiccup. The computer expected date of arrival was August 13, 2007.  That would be plenty of time before my daughter started classes at XXX University (XXX).

On August 13, 2007 I got a call saying that my order was delayed until August 28, 2007 (one day after classes started at XXX).  I called your customer service and was told that I could either cancel the order or, basically, nothing else.  The only thing the person on the phone did was put my order on the list to get free priority shipping when the computer was complete. I still have to drive the computer to my daughter when it arrives (1.5 hours away).

Right now, I am miserable. My daughter is at college with no computer.  Everyone else has a computer, except her and one other girl whos pink dell laptop is on backorder as well. I am scared that she will not have it to start classes. No one even cares at all except me.  I feel very alone and very upset with believing that your company could provide for my needs and has failed me completely. No compensation, nothing, just absolute and utter failure on your part to complete one small request for a computer to arrive on time for my daughter’s first day at college.

In closing, I just want to say that I needed to write this letter just to express my extreme sadness that as a parent I chose your company to help me give my daughter a good start to college and you have failed me completely, 100%.

If you have any questions or would like to speak to me directly, my email XXX -          Believe me, I am not holding my breath though.-

I ordered on July 31st and got Sept 18th as estimated delivery date. Dell has now changed it to Sept 6 (12 days earlier!), and customers in Norway who ordered a few weeks before me reports that their 1330s are being shipped now (nVidia graphics, LED backlight). Most of them reported that the order status changed from "estimated delivery date Oct 2nd" to "shipped".

I also got a "PowerConnect 2724 - 24 Port Gigabit Switch" item added to my order for free without me asking for it (don't know if they will actually deliver it..).

I know it's too early to tell yet, but it might be that Dell has solved the production/delivery problems.

Angry Dell Customer

You can talk about delays in manufacturing and screens and colors all you want Dell but let’s face facts by looking at what you have on your website.  First I ordered the Flamingo Pink Inspiron 1420 Laptop this carries (according to your website) the highest delay in days of any of the colors 16 days.  I also ordered the Anti-glare, widescreen 14.1 inch display (1280X800) which carries a delay of 2 days.  None of the other parts of the computer are labeled as may delay your Inspiron 1420 ship date.

Now if I can do the math correctly that equates to a maximum possible delay of 18 days if it is handled one after the other.  Now I ordered my laptop on 7/10/2007 the original ship date was 7/26/2007.  Then like clock work on 7/27/2007 I got a delay to a new ship date of 8/2/2007.  I let it go and said it is only one more week.  Then again like clock work on 8/3/2007 it was delayed to the magic date that everyone seems to get of 8/28/2007.  Now a little more math Dell.  Taking out the first 11 BUSINESS DAYS I waited to the first original ship date of 7/26/2007 which is build time, to the 8/28/2007 magic ship date that is a total delay of 23 BUSINESS DAYS

So explain this to me where did you get the 16 days for the color and the 2 days for the screen?  As far as I am concerned you really do not know when anything is going to ship.  But the best part of all of this is that you would actually let me order that laptop online knowing full well that people like me have been delayed over month for the exact same laptop.  This is a pathetic excuse for a company.  You continue to run commercial after commercial for the laptops you can not deliver, and continue to take orders from the poor unsuspecting customers that have not had the luxury of reading forums like this.  You should be ashamed.

Oh and on top of all of this I have spoken to your so called customer SERVICE department on the other side of the world and found something interesting.  The day my order was delayed the second time to the magic ship date of 8/28/2007 I saw on the order status screen on your website that I had to agree to the delay and either accept it or choose to cancel the order due to the FTC regulations.  However before I did this I called customer service where I was told that it was the color of my laptop delaying my order and that I did not have to consent to keeping the order and it would not be canceled.  I however went back online and filled in the online check boxes to keep the order and my order is still in place.  Now I have read several comments on this forum about people’s orders being canceled and it seems that if you do not fill out the online order status confirmation, your customer service reps can do nothing about it.  I am sure that if I had listened to your customer service rep that my order would have been like many others and been canceled. Now that is what I call competent customer service.

I have just ordered this yesterday in the UK and I am told that it will be available 4th October. This is a 6 week wait but I I am fine with it since I have been advised, but reading this has worried me that I may not get it for months! Can anyone tell me if they have had these delays and problems when ordering in the UK?

 Thanks

I finally received my M1330 today after waiting 2months and 1 week.

I opened the box and the laptop to find:

1) A large scratch on the screen

2) The screen backlight was faulty and therefore was very very dim and could not be used

3) No protective shipping film on it.

I don't know what Dell are playing at but I called them the condition that my laptop was received in.  They told me that they would call me straight back to arrange a new one to be sent out within 14 - 15 days.

I am now fuming once again.  I regret ever ordering this laptop from Dell, why o why didn't I just pay a little more to get the same spec from tosh or IBM.

You have cost me as an IT Consultant, two days work and a whole lot of stress.  Not to mention letting my customers down over this.  You are just simply not worth the problems you have caused to me and my company.

From above post... Soz - it was "Not Applicable", not "Not Available". Anyways, the EDD has changed to Sept 13. I ordered it on July 20. That's almost a 2 month waiting period for the white XPS 1330, pending possible further delays. If Dell keeps this up, those of you who made orders in August may have to wait till Oct to get your laptop. Good luck.

Exactly the same situation here in Sydney, Australia. Ordered mine on 20th July, and was given a delivery date for 14th August. Come Aug 13, and the EDD changed to Aug 21. Checked yesterday (Aug 17) and the status has become "Not Available"! What pisses me off is that Dell is still offering this laptop system in the website to unsuspecting would-be customers.

i was surprised when i woke up in the morning and in the email subject i received it siad my dell laptop been shipped, yes its was the 1330, and the funny thing is i ordered my laptop on August 9th, and it was shipped on july 16 and i received it this past friday i found that very strange since i had an orignal ship date of august 31

Kostas Lasithiotakis
After the sale dep. told me i shouldn't worry about the delivery date (they said 15 days most) i got the confirmation mail that indicates 2 months of waiting. 3 days ago i spoke with dell and they told me it might be the color ordered that gives the delay. Today they told me it is the 6 cell battery that gives the delay and they offer me to reorder with a 9 cell battery and after a while they will send me a 6 cell battery as a gift. I feel like an idiot trusting this company once more and i can guarantee it will be the last time. You just got a negative feedback to all the people i know.....well done. Maybe tomorow it will be the lcd screen? After 2 days it will be the cpu fan that cause the delay? Why lie thats a thing i cannot understand.

Let me precede this by saying this is not a spam post, just want to call your attention to a laptop available for $150 with Fedora installed.  Low price, no MS os hassles.  I've ordered a couple.

 http://blogs.zdnet.com/BTL/?p=5746

I had more or less made up my mind to get Linux on my next computer due to MS's propensity for unleashing buggy operating systems (Windows users are nothing more than unpaid beta testers, imo) and their refusal to issue security updates for older versions, thereby putting all of us at risk (there are a whole lot of people who are still using Windows 98 and (shiver) Windows ME at last estimate, now with current security holes unpatched).

Jobin Thomas

Yeah this is definitely messed up. I ordered my laptop and its been more than a week.

I am thinking of cancelling my order..and just going to bestbuy and getting a good system with that money.

I spent over 1000$ for this laptop and i need it desperately for my work now that my inspiron 6000 is dead.

 Damn dell help me out.

Desperate

It shipped!!!

I don't know why but it says it has been shipped today - not just the bag but it says the actual XPS M1330. I filled out some Dell email survey yesterday and said I was fed up and now they ship the next day. Coincidence??? And, the weird thing is I ordered my XPS on July 30th and then had to cancel it because I wanted to change one thing. I was mad but reordered on Aug 2nd with the led display. And now they are shipping 2 weeks later. Their system is so random. I think they pick your name out of a hat and say - yes, let's ship to her today. However they chose, I feel lucky that it was me today.

@John

You don't understand some things as well. I have a company-work to do. I arrange things and i did arange things based on the delivery date sales dep. gave me. So what am i supposed to do? bend over? Last time i will do business with dell (if i even do this one). They could have informed me from the start but they didn't.

Order Date:10/8/2007
Estimated Delivery Date (on or before this date): 8/10/2007

2 months waiting (if it doesn't delay more and more). While prices will drop on processors, ram and other things this laptop has. So i have prepay for an item and Dell will spend less for it and gain more? What will me and the rest people in here get for this delay? A better processor? An upgrade? So let me count. If i cancel the order i will get my money back in at least 20 days from the day i cancel. The next day i will be able to buy a sony or mbm. Why was i told by the sales department that it will take 15 days  max to be delivered?

Ordered my dell on aug 3rd. Have communicated with dell a few times and got 0 answers. Finally i recieved an email while I was in vegas saying that the led display is causing the delay. NOT happy at all. Its sad because you spend so much money on such a highly reviewed item than I find out its going to take months to recieve. Dell upgraded my shipping to next day, however if it takes 2 months to make, who cares. Ill wait this order out but from this point forward people should buy a different brand unless dell starts giving things out for free.

Hi Dell and also others,

I need some info

How long will it take to get 3800 pieces of XPS 1330 (all with the same configuration)?

I mean the order-to-ship dates ?

Ordered mine on June 27th. LED screen, Nvidia, 2.2 processor, 200g 7200RPM HD.

Original ship date was July 27th. Then it was pushed to Aug 3rd. Then on Aug 3rd, it was pushed to Sept 28th. I was notified about the delay, and asked to call in to keep the order, or it would be cancelled automatically due to fed reg.

I called, told them I wanted to keep the order. The following Monday Aug 6th, The laptop arrived at my office!

Sweet!! Just in time to use it for a trade show ripping large 30mg to1g tiff/eps files (hi res) images to wide format printers. It worked Flawlessly! Love this design, speed. The only thing I changed was I turned off all the fancy aero stuff, standard windows interface speeds it up a bit...

Be patient, definatley worth the wait..

Ordered my 1330 26th och June and it will be finnished the 6th of September. This is really bad. I´ve been a customer for manny years and bought about 100 computers as an consultant. I dont know if I´m a customer any more.

What I was dreading over the past week after reading this forum has just happened. My order was estimated to arrive on 3rd August and got pushed back to August 14th. Today I called Dell to hear the news regarding my order, which should be close to shipping…the outcome……the estimated delivery date has been pushed back to September 26th!!! I’m sooooo annoyed!

I was assured time and time again on the phone that I would receive the order around the 14th of August. They clearly knew they had no intention of achieving that delivery date. For some reason I didn’t cancel but now as the outcome settles in I’m just going to go ahead and cancel. I can buy a Mac after work and have it in my hands by the end of the day and stop stressing over Dell. A lot of process engineers at Dell must be heavily accountable for such an absolute mess.

I find it hard to believe this whole process has been so badly managed. I feel sorry for the poor employees having to handle the repercussions of absolute miss-management. I have always found the telephone consultants extremely polite. As is the usual case the real people at fault (Senior Executives) hide behind their frontline staff in a very cowardly fashion. I've just cancelled my order, an order I was very much looking forward to. Wouldn't you think Dell would offer another of their products with an apology and an appropriate incentive? The old WIN WIN. As with most corporations these days DELL are only in it for the WINDELL Executives this is NOT going to get you back to the position of Market Leader! At no time did I ask anything from Dell with the exception of an adequate delivery time span.

Kostas Lasithiotakis

I was quite bad luck not to find this threat here before i place my order. I have been a customer of Dell for some years now. Today i went to the bank and prepay the XPS1330. I was told for 15 days till i get it in my hands. Tomorrow i will call Dell here at Greece and try to find a way to get my money back. Seems that Dell is not thinking that some of us might want this laptop for real work that makes money to us. I wonder there are no rules that cover us in case we start loosing money because of Dell's delay? If yes anyone knows where people like that can complain? Will i ever get my money back if i cancel?

Big disappointment from Dell. I guess it is my fault that i didn't search before i buy......but then again Dell is Dell why search for something like that? My fault i know.

I ordered my from Dell Norway 27.june. Got a mail yesterday that is gonna be finished 28 sep. Thats 3  months....

just cancelled my dell... fed up waiting!

The reason why we are complaining is because most people who use Dell as a supplier are business users.  We are not home users who can simply switch between brands and have a mish-mash of computers to support.  We buy a particular brand which reduces the support requirements of hundreds computers.  Therefore we have corporate standards in place for or computer systems.  The problems come when you take on say 8 new members of staff and order 8 new laptops to arrive before the new starters appear.  If the laptops don't appear, you cannot go and tell the workers that they cannot start work.

You cannot easily switch brands when all the other computers are Dell's and you have hardware support agrrements in place with them.

Time is money and we have new members of staff who are sitting, twiddling their thumbs with no laptops because they should have been delivered a month ago.

All we can do is complain and hope that Dell take their customer support seriously, as it will be some time before we are in a position to switch brands on all of our computers and every day that passes costs us a days salary for each worker without a computer.

Everytime we contact Dell they don't "say sorry they will not be shipped at all, go somewhere else", they say "heres a new delivery date a few days later".  Well we look at the new delivery date and wait for it knowing each day is costing money.

The compliants are more that they are stringing us along whilst costing us a fortune, when we have been loyal customers for years.

hi John, hi Dell

I'm Mike from Italy. I've happy ordered mine on 23th of July, You Dell have already charged my bank account on 26th e promised me to get it before or max on 5th of Sept. LCD Panel included.  And that is good time waiting for me.

I choosed Dell  and think they are a good Company but simply don't care to much about they are "only a OEM" with all its relative consequences just because:

1) they have already charged my bill. If you simply "think" to send my laptop, plaese let me decide when to charge your account....

2) they sayd something they can't make, which means they are not that good Compay I was thinking about for my actually laptop replacement. Single no business customer should have the same importance of a Company, which I guess this should be a bussiness must to.

So, I really hope to get my super-xps on time ... Go Dell !!

Bye everybody!  :-)

14/6 - I ordered 3 x XPS M1210 Laptops from Dell. Was given a delivery date of 22/6.

22/6 - Was told that the M1210s were still in production and would be with us on 27/6

27/6 - Laptops didn't arrive and was given a new delivery date of 2/7.

2/7 - Was told that the M1210's were end of life and we would have to order M1330's instead.  However, they would do a good deal on it for the inconvenience.

3/7 - Changed the order to 3 x M1330's, and was given a new delivery date of 20/7.  Argued about the delivery date and forced a confirmation and was informed it would be a safe launch

20/7 - No laptops, called Dell and they apologised and said that they were longer in the testing stage than expected. But should arrive any day.

27/7 - Still no laptops, was told they were short on parts, threatened Dell with cancelling the order and was given a new firm delivery date of 30/7.

30/7 - Still no laptops, complained again and sent various emails to customer services.  Was given a new date of 8/8.  I told them that I didn't believe them and would not be suprised if our laptops did not arrive on 8/8

7/8 - was informed today that due to a world-wide glass shortage, the laptops would not be delivered until 17/8

I think that we will never see these laptops and their next excuse will be that there is a world-wide sand shortage.

We ordered 3 laptops on 14/6 and have been waiting nearly 2 months for delivery.  How do they expect companies to run with this sort of service?

There seem to be some comments in Dell's favor above.  I have no doubt that they will all change when you find out that your laptop is not coming at all.  Meanwhile Dell are capitalising on the intrest from hundreds of thousands of pounds if not millions.

I think I will change our Corporate standard to Tosh after this, after all they have better laptops and have been making them since Dell were working from a garage.  Toshiba are a little more expensive for the spec, but at least they get delivered this side of christmas.

Dell should set some customer commitment slogan after this, such as "if its not delivered within a month, you get it free!" thats the only way to regain customer confidence if you ask me.

Greg trying to help my daughter get computer before school starts

Wow.  Seems like Dell is full of suprises.  Unpleasant ones at that.  My daughter leaves for college on August 11th.  We ordered Inspiron 1520 on July 9.  Original ship date was July 26.  Get email on 7/26 saying ordered will ship 8/2.  Then on 8/2, we get email in afternoon that the unit won't ship until 8/28.

I find it amazing that a company like DELL has no better view of supply chain.  To have an estimated ship date arrive, and then have to push an order 26 days the same day it was to ship sounds like, well, a company that has no ability to track their suppliers.

I called customer service and pushed hard, talked to them for one hour (well on hold off and on for 50 minutes, talked 10).  They got in touch with their modification department who informed me that the issue is lack of flatscreens.  I asked specifically if this was all laptops or just something about this order.  They informed the shortage was effecting ALL INSPIRON laptops and deliveries were pushing out.  THIS IS WHAT THE DELL CUSTOMER REP TOLD ME.  I checked web sites, found nothing current on this claimed shortage.  So I pushed again and talked to the supervisor in customer service. Got no where there either.

So where do you go from here?  Circuit City? Best Buy?  At least they have product on the shelf.  Would rather have a DELL, but if it doesn't arrive by 8/8 so my daughter can take to school, we'll have to cancel and buy a competitors product.

Does anyone read these comments I wonder (DELL people that is)?

Upset Customer
I am leaving for college on August 12th.  My estimated ship date WAS August 2nd with a next day delivery.  I find out at 12:45am on August 3rd that my laptop's estimated ship date has been moved to August 14th.  I ordered this on July 4th.  What am I supposed to do?

I ordered it on 10/07, then they told me that it will not arrive until 23/08 and might subject to further delay. MY GOD> Dell, do not release somthing that you could not deliver to ur customers

My Order Shipped 2day :), Got my tracking number and everything :) Can't Wait :D :D

Has anyone received their XPS M1330 yet???  I just ordered mine today and my delivery date is 9/13/07! Just wondering if that is for real...Thanks

Eric (Houston)

Wow,Dell comes out with a fantastic new system and everyone is crying because they can't get it soon enough.

Just be patient.  Soon many of us will be enjoying our new M1330 laptops and we'll not be worried about the fact the we had to wait over a month to get it.

You might find that you could enjoy much more of your life more if you are willing to wait.

Ordered in the UK:  6th July
Promised: 1st Aug
Told 31st July it wouldn't ship until 7th Sept (no explanation)
I cancelled order 31st July
Just got a call from Dell right now that it would ship in 8 days.

I told Dell to shove it and give me my money back. I'm looking at Mac now.  Thank you!

Hmmmm,

You know, this is a new product, and I have an intense feeling of DeJa-Vu since the same bad communication and end date push outs occurred when I ordered an axim x50v a few years ago close to its release. I must be a fool to have thought it wouldn't happen this time. Instead of the whole experience being better with the M1330 release, it's apparently a whole lot worse !

I'm now in the position where I'm wondering if it is all worth the grief. There's a shiny new 13.3 inch screen Sony VAIO in a store nearby for a little less $$$'s with a slightly lesser spec than the optioned M1330 I ordered, but I could have tomorrow with no fuss or grief. There's a Mac notebook in a store closer still. Apple have great design so they won't have been released with heat issues, and they won't be charged to my credit card a month before I get the invoice or the unit.

I now know what the sales guys in the stores meant when I was looking for a case for my ordered M1330 and mentioned I'd ordered a Dell. They just smiled and said "well ... good luck with that, I hope it goes well for you....I hope you took out the extended warranty", they probably know I'll be back to buy the Sony or the Apple when I get ticked off enough with the delays or scared enough of the bad press on the design issues (which are neither confirmed or refuted by Dell).

Dell, people hate being lied to, people hate being strung along, people hate buying something and seeing better deals on the same item before they get the one they bought and people really hate expectations that are dashed repeatedly. The M1330 release and specs really created a buzz, on paper it's quite a machine  .... but now the buzz is becoming an angry one. Sure Microsoft do a similar thing with OS's and get away with it but they have a virtual monopoly and 90% market share. Dell do not !

Dell has lost an opportunity to increase market share in a critical and lucrative market segment but you've taken the opportunity to annoy and cause grief to many previous, current and potential Dell customers. If this persists with more delays, runarounds, bad or conflicting information from the company and tales of failing machines ..... well ..... I'm sure you can connect the dots and see the picture.

For my dollar, and sanity, you have 2 days left to at least get my M1330 out of the darned "Build" state before I cancel my order.

Yes - I'm so sick of this waiting...

I was one of the first to order (on 6/26) and had an ESD of 8/1.  On that very morning, my status online and via phone system stayed the same.  Of course when I finally got someone on Dell chat, lo and behold my ship date got pushed out to 8/7.  The customer service rep had nothing better to say other than he was sorry.  This is at least the 10th system I've bought from Dell and I've never had such a bad experience before.  If the laptop doesn't ship by 8/7 or if I don't get some major free concessions, I'm cancelling my order.

Dell:   My organization buys thousands of your machines (16,000 employees).  My IT folks alternate between HP and Dell.  Every three years I upgrade to the best portable you guys can offer.  I am pretty patient and I start researching early.  I have now waited 6 months while you sold off old stock and got around to launching the M1330.  I put my purchasing folks to work the day the machines were posted to first the Canadian site and then the US.  After rounds and rounds of calls and quotes I am told no one at Dell sales has any idea why the T7700 processor is no longer available.  Worse I hit your Blog to find stories - (not denied by Dell) that the machines are overheating and that the processor is not available because of power supply issues.

I have a great little Latitude x300 thats been all over the world with me and I can wait for delivery - if only someone could tell me what is going on.

WHAT ARE YOU DOING.  WAKE UP AND PUT SOME OF THESE FIRES OUT!!!!!!!    YOU ARE NOT GOING TO HAVE ANY CUSTOMERS LEFT.

me too...

will go for sz5 sony...

bye bye dell forever :)

Dell... you lost a customer here too!

Will never look to Dell again!

I spoke with customer service this morning and the rep told me that the bluetooth is on a big-bad backorder, October to be exact. So for everybody that is having their ship dates pushed back to October, this may be the case.

The rep also told me that my system is on a 15 day delay until August 13 and is scheduled to be shipped on the 17 of August, which would be awesome because I was originally quoted at September 7. She could never say why it was on a 15 day delay, but I'm guessing it's the LED screen.

i've been waiting over a month for my order as well and was originally looking at the mbp and decided on dell instead...WHAT A MISTAKE. I'm regretting every moment of this...i will be canceling my order first thing tomorrow morning and ordering the mbp...plus the keypad lights up..yay.

Luckily, I can afford to wait, as this is just a splurge purchase for me.   However, I won't put up with a run-around either, so I can afford to cancel my order if it gets delayed (ordered Jul 25 with a Sep 11 est shipping date).  I look at it in a positive light:  I'll give Dell till 9/11 'cause that's what they told me to expect.  Fair is fair.  If something better comes up between now and then, however, and my 1330 gets delayed beyond 9/11, then I'll be able to cancel and jump on that (having kept my end of the bargain).  So I really can't lose.

I can understand the frustration many of you feel, though, since you were told an earlier shipment date and that obviously went nowhere...and unfortunately, there really isn't much better out there in this form factor and at this price.  Yeah, the MBPs are nice if you want a 15" computer, and the Sonys are nice if you want 13", but neither offer the balance the 1330 does.  Having tried a Mac Mini, for me, a Mac just isn't an option; I'm too comfortable with Windows, and I've never had a problem with Windows-based machines.  The Mac, on the other hand....

Tough choices!  I feel for y'all!

Okay, I cancelled my m1330 order as well. I just got my first Apple machine & loving it!! Bye bye Dell forever!!!!

I have owned 4 dell laptops & 3 desktops, but never again, NEVER!!

Btw, I talked my friend out of ordering a new Dell as well. We went to Best Buy & picked up a Sony! Oh, and guess what, he got his machine the same day!!

Dan F, England

Still waiting, but ordered on 16th July ans EDD on 10th Aug. If not arrived by then i shall cancel and go for a Sony C series i think. will go to PC World to have a look.

Need to check my Credit card though, if they have taken out my money then i shall go ballistic and contact a national newspaper here in the UK.

are the deliveries coming from Ireland or mars??????

For those of you who might be expecting an actual update, real information about your order status and such...give it up. The reality is that this was a paper launch and nothing more. Dell has absolutely no problem lying to us and taking our cash. Because they launched this product without any ability to actually build it you can expect more lies, more delays, and more promises about updates. This is business as usual with these folks. I would not be at all surprised if they continue to push the ship dates out even further, even for those who ordered first.

Has anyone actually seen or touched one of these? Do you know anyone who has? Has Dell actually shipped this box to even one customer?

It's not the delay that seems to be causing the anger...it's the lying and the money grabbing. It's the lack of customer service, the lack of info from what used to be reliable sources. Broken promises...promises of call-backs and confirmation emails that never happen, promises of real information. Do not tell me that a company the size of Dell with it's market maturity cannot handle the flow of information. They simply have chosen not to.

Customer service has no clue, senior managers have no clue, and Lionel seems to have been muzzled. We have been had...again.

Paul LONDON

Thats it for me. I've had it.

Cancelling my Order first thing tomorrow morning (whatever tomorrow means in dell standards.. ;)  )

I just realized that my order is about £400 ($800) cheaper in the US than

in the UK. This was "for reasons they could not reveal"

as its some kind of secret..

Last time im going to order anything from Dell..

Pathetic

Iam from India...i ordered mine on 16th july...n d production stage is over n d laptop has already been boxed...on 22nd july...the site shows it has been shipped on 22nd july...from malaysia...2day its 29th.,..i donno....is dis really true tat d laptop has been shipped or not....bcoz...seein all d above posts...i haven't seen nybody's laptop being shipped uptil now...so guessin how cud i b d lucky one....or r dey foolin me....!!!...i guess i need to call up customer care n confirm dis.....tat d delivery date is 10th aug. or not as shown by the site....n if they have ny idea of d shippment gettin delayed...iam straight away goin for a Apple Macbook...or a Sony vaio c25g....!!!...Bitter experiance wid dell..evn though iam a loyal customer...

I talked to a representative about receiving it before August 31st (proposed date by her) because I have school and work stuff to do and she said it would be shipped before then but I get my Est. Ship Date and it's SEPTEMBER 6TH!!!

Uuuuhhhhhh... With thousands of others trying to get theirs, I guestimate I will get mine in October...

Dell is OK with this? Nothing was planned ahead of time? Are you kidding me? Not one person actually has the m1330? Are you serious?

The m1330 is worth waiting 2 months for for the price it is and the pain associated with trying to get it??? RIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIGHT!

Wow... first Dell feeds me garbage about shipping dates, etc... now they call my house and insult me. I spoke to a call centre manager a few days ago after my order was incorrectly cancelled (as part of that whole Canada issue). He personally reinput my order incorrectly, so he had me phone the guy in charge of my order to put it in himself correctly. The manager claimed he would give me daily updates on my order and provided his email address in case I had any further questions. So I emailed him the next day when I heard people with similar orders and ship dates were given August 15th as estimated dates (I was told August 27th by the call centre). I later received a phone call telling me to stop contacting Dell because constantly "phoning" them wasn't helping. Riiight... The guy came off as pretty rude and insulting.

So it's going to be a good two months for a laptop I paid $2000+ for and was told would arrive in 2 weeks... I've been fed constant lies about the status of my laptop.. and now they're telling me to stop contacting them after giving me their contact details and asking me to phone them.

Get your act together Dell.. for your other customers' sake. You've already lost my future business. This is the last Dell I'll ever buy (assuming it ever arrives).

Wow, 154 responses to this entry and more. Many people are upset and cancelling their orders (or saying they are). Where's Dell's response to all this? Isn't the XPS M1330 supposed to compete with other laptops (specifically the Apple Macbook). If this is the case, the other companies are winning for their customer service ten-fold. Plus, the Apple Store is offering a free iPod nano, a free printer (after mail in rebate) and an educational discount for university students/staff for a lot less than a well customized XPS M1330 notebook.

Plus, it's not worth buying the XPS M1330 if you live anywhere but the United States. Dell USA gets better deals, coupons and components than anywhere else in the world, and priced unfairly based on location for the same product. It's ridicously expensive for the world and thus I am going online to buy my Macbook (which is priced closely around the world and performs better than any PC I've used in my life). I was considering buying the M1330, but you've changed my mind. Avoid Dell like the plaugue, for any prospective buyers.

You lost a customer Dell ....

I work with a company that has a major account with Dell and I still can't get any information or prioritized.  Yes, I tried since the company spent a little over a million with Dell last month and I figure we might get a little special treatment.  I ordered on 7/12 and have a ship date of 8/29 (which I doubt will be meet).  What I don't understand is why I get a quicker ship date (8/24) if I go through and build the exact same system again and why they are still heavily advertising a product they can't ship (I've seen no less than 4 commercials everyday this week).  Unfortunately we have a contract with Dell, so another brand is out of the question.  I guess I'm on the hook for this one with no real alternative.

I am deeply disappointed in Dell because of the shortage in information about the delays and because they should (make that 5 commercials today) have ensured the part supplies were in place before marketing and making the unit available.  It will be a long time before I recommend dell again.

Yes these comments are getting silly now.

Dell has made 2 mistakes: 1: not preparing their manufacturing, assembly process, and supply lines. 2: telling their customers many different stories about why there are delays and making them feel tricked.

Now I agree this is a mistake, but there is no need for everyone to flip out over this. Everyone who has placed an order in July, and had done any research on this system before buying, knew that there were already delays. So acting all shocked now is not cutting it.

Also, if you decide to cancel your order and go with another system do you really have to post it here? Just be happy with your purchase. If I were running I business I would not want half the people in this thread as customers with the way you have been acting.

Yes Dell is making mistakes, and their bottom line will show it thru bad PR etc. But there is no need for you all to start calling individual people names. I mean Dell is huge, they want to ship out these computers,  threatening Lionel and Dell with you leaving will really not make this any better.

Please just post civilized comments, spell out your concerns. Just posting "I am canceling", and "I got a Sony" does not really help anything.

Caveat Emptor...buyer beware!

Hmmm....all this secrecy and reluctance to discuss why nothing is shipping leads me to think there are some SERIOUS QUALITY ISSUES here.  As many others have noted, the problem can not simply be a lack of components.  If this was the case, at least SOME laptops would have shipped by now before the original batch of components ran out.

A more plausible explanations is that they are discovering late in the game that there are some serious quality issues...bad enough that if they don't get it under control there will be even worst backlash than what they are facing with the current delays

If this is the case, I am worried that the enormous pressure on them to release a product will result in them shipping something that is of subpar quality.

At this point, I really do have to think long and hard about whether I really want to take a chance on this laptop!

I just submitted this story to digg, everyone please digg this if you can in order to get the story out.  Go here for the digg story: tinyurl.com/3a4vly.  I am also an m1330 customer, but I recently cancelled my order.

Lionel...technically speaking...you are a liar. You promised us a reply and left us with our eyes in the sun. All i can see is only a full load of Dell markeding lies and no laptops delivered.

HAHAHA...looks like there might be enough cancels to make Dell feel it...keep the cancels coming...otherwise, they will never learn.

As for you Lionel, you are just as bad as any other rep I spoke to, only now I actually can prove Dell's incompetence with this blog.

Just to let everyone know, NCIX.com has a great Asus laptop which is quite close in specs to an XPS M1330 configuration, for about 500 bucks cheaper.

http://www.ncix.com/products/index.php?sku=111115807&vpn=90NHTAE232232EQL600T&manufacture=Asus

2.2ghz C2D, 1.5gb ram, 8400, 13.3in, a bit over 4 pounds. No LED backlighting unfortunately.

I'm replacing my delayed and now CANCELLED Dell M1330 with that beauty, and taking my Asus laptop and saved cash laughing all the way to university.

Thanks Dell.

Hell,

I wanted to buy a m1330 ; think I'm going to wait !!!. 3 things seem so incredible :

- no official information whatsoever as to the reasons for these incredible delays. Why don't they post here, their official blog?

- accounts being debited despite the situation

- How can so many new products suffer delays so long?

Looks like there is no crisis management at Dell, which is all the more surprising as they have had a lot of bad press these last few months.

I will never order from Dell again!  This is the worst experience I have had with Dell.  Long lead times and no/shady communication.  No wonder Dell is loosing business.

Conspiracy Theory

I CAN HEAR IT NOW...ALL THE dell SPIN DOCTORS in a mad panic CLICKING AWAY AT THEIR COMPUTERS TRYING TO COME UP WITH SOME WORLD CLASS BOVINE EXCREMENT.  Keep us all hungry in suspense and then feed us a full plate!  How is it that the head of digital media does not know what's going on?  It's obvious they are trying to come up with more excuses without alienating more customers.  Such a pathetic state of affairs....

How could a company like DELL do the busniess by MAKING LIES TO THEIR CUSTOMERS??? Why do we have to pay for something that we won't get in two months or even more time??? It's a waste of time and money. Can somebody of Dell give us the explanation??? Supose that nobody would except keeping on LYING. Right?

After cancelling because they downgraded my order automatically to a slower processor (for the same price), they still got the money from my credit card and haven't paid back since 2 weeks...

that's the most funny thing I ever experienced...more than 2200$ (2900 swiss francs) I'm waiting for since July 14.
after calling Dell on Monday they said sorry and promised to pay it back immediately and send me a e-mail for confirming our phone call...still waiting and no e-mail so far. no comment

Why not go to www.foxnews.com and on the left side send them a "news tip" about this situation.   If they get enough then they'll probably look into it.  I did this yesterday.

Waiting for his XPS m1330

I don't understand your manufacturing system.  My system has been in BOXING for 4 days.  How can this be???

HEY DUDE - I AM SORRY I BOUGHT A DELL!!

No news = canceled order the best way to get the message to dell is to cancel your order! as they try to get supply in for this great demand, if a few hundred orders get canceled, they will feel it. (ps, lol at the idiot who said millions) SO IF YOU ARE STILL WAITING FOR AN M1330, CANCEL YOUR ORDER RIGHT NOW! SEND DELL A MESSAGE!

What is going on DELL? I ordered on 6/26, EDD is 7/28 according to website. Check my online status, still suppose to ship today. Chat with your online CSR, and suddenly he said my EDD is 8/3! due to some hinge part delayed.

No email has ever been send to me regarding this delay. What kind of customer care is this? Do you even care? I have a bad feeling even the 8/3 EDD is made up now. Can't you even tell whether you can deliver or not in time days before ? Is your ordering system that botched? Or you just withholding information (lying) to keep our business?

Hi Lionel, If you cannot keep your words on an update on time (XPS 1330 Update Tomorrow),  how can we trust anyone at Dell?

Ok, some news for European customers (none of us went further than pre-production so far. None of us saw a m1330 delivered). My delivery date was August 2nd, now pushed to the 10th of September. I ordered on the 6th of July. It's not critical for me, I have other solutions to wait, but 2 months, that's a huge delay, plus the money was taken this morning. To wait without paying, why not, but now my money was taken.

Question is: how could Dell make me accept such a delay? Originally, the delivery date was 2nd of August (even if I was told it would be less), and I said Ok, let's wait a bit.

Anyway, Asus is releasing the V1s in Europe on the 2nd of August (nice coincidence, isn't it?). I'm waiting until this day to see if I have some good news from Dell (and I guess that pretty much like all the early purchasers, I'm not waiting only for a firm delay). If not, I will just buy Asus, and cancel the XPS.

I'm seriously contemplating on cancelling!

the new 2007 pro edition of the Macbook pro has far superior specs, (better graphics card, better processor, similar RAM) for a great price (after college student discount of $200) than the XPS starting at its most basic configuration $1799

in addition, you could dual boot into Vista or Linux, take advantage of a FREE  NANO, FREE PRINTER, and FREE FAST SHIPPING and no hassle of waiting months for a product that is not even out yet.

I got the Timbuk2 deal offer, but i know that bag isn't worth $149 and its only a deal to keep users in from cancelling.

Lies, lies and yet even more lies. I placed my order a month ago, and after a month of waiting, delays and lies, I am still being lied to right to my face. This behavior is the most unprofessional I've seen from such a large multinational company. I've been a Dell customer for more than a decade and frankly, I've had it. You've totally lost my trust and confidence and countless customers' and all I can say is this is bad for business. The only thing I'm looking forward to now is a refund. Dell, wake up!! Your entire system is flawed, from order to delivery, it's just so effing messed up. Dell, I hope you've learnt your lesson. I have learnt mine the painful way.

SprintSlash

I have a suggestion that could possibly resolve the current shortage problem and make both Dell and the customers happy:

Make a special limited edition model named XPS M1337 (basically rebadged M1330) and give to those who are currently waiting for M1330 and those who order within a certain date.

:)

Actually, I really think it's a brilliant marketing plan.  You paper launch a product 2 months in advance and set the price based on the market at that time.  However, we all know that prices of components keep dropping all the time.  This way you lock in all the profits on the backs of loyal customers who are silly enough to pay premium market price for cutting edge technology.  Meanwhile, you delay as long as possible before you buy components because every day you delay you are saving big money knowing full well that prices for those components can only go one way....DOWN!  Instant boost in profit.

At the same time, we have all the eager beavers who have ordered their computer coming to the dell website multiple times per day to check their order and who can't help but cruise through and see more ads for other stuff to buy at full price.

Absolute genius!!!!  Come to think of it I'm gonna get in on this game and pick up some dell stock.

Wow, I am a bit surprised about how many of us are so upset. Dell has been kind enough to allow us to vet a bit & I am sure there are many more postings that the monitor just couldn't allow to be published.

I called customer service again today. After being on hold for dozens of minutes & having to speak to four reps before I demanded a supervisor; I got some comfort. First, it is very clear that Dell's own customer service doesn't know what is going on (even some supervisors). Dell, send a memo!!

I was told that the delay with my order (this time) was the LED screen, plastic molding for the arm rests (I think that was what she said, but really couldn't understand her), the four cell battery, & the T7500 processor.

She said something like the processor & LED screens were six month back log but Dell is expecting a "special delivery" to get our orders out in the next month or so. I said what ?????

Now I did try to configure another system last night & wasn't able to choose the 4 cell battery with the T7500. That was actually why I made my third call to Dell. No representatives or supervisors could explain to me why the battery is now not compatible or if my first order is a mistake that needs to be rectified (so it doesn't hold up my order).

Anyhow, this is very frustrating. I love Dell products, but I don't know how much more abuse I can take. Btw, I insisted that they provide me with the free Timbuk2 bag they are now promoting with the M1330. Don't you think it is odd that Dell is running "promotions" on a system they clearly can't deliver on yet?

Joseph

Interesting development on the Australian web-site...it used to say pre-orders for the XPS m1330 for delivery on August 7th. The on-line ordering web site today has changed to "Now Available!" - the exclamation mark afterwards is by Dell. Does this mean our wait is over and that "Now Available" actually means that the m1330 is available NOW???

I was told by some Dell CS cowboy in India that a manager would firm up on my delivery date (originally July 7th and delayed currently to August 7th (maybe this is what NOW actually means??) within 30 minutes to 1 hour. 3 days later and I'm still waiting. I was about to order a new desktop QX6800 XPS 720, but after this 1330 customer relations debacle, I have been advised best to let Dell finish sacking their incompetent PR staff and wait for the dust to settle and then order a new XPS 730 when they just might return to their normal professional standards.

Lionel,

In all fairness toy you guys we know you've got some problems and that means we have some problems. Just be honest and let us know where we stand.

I don't think we need to assign blame to anyone but we all wanna know when will we get our laptops?

If you don't know thats cool... but saying nothing is not PC in this day and age.

I still wanna know WASSUP?

I think its funny, I hope this teaches Dell a lesson.  I wish all would cancel and go another route...I mean there are tons of other computers out there.  Let them fall on their face once or twice and see if things change.

Ordered my m1330 on 6/30 in Singapore.

First shipping date: 7/19

second date: 7/23

third date: 7/27

fourth date: 7/30

On 7/28, I called to protest why my shipping date kept getting delayed. The rep told me further bad news. The parts for my M1330 was only going to come on 8/10. I found it outrageous to wait 1.5 months for a notebook. Therefore I cancelled my m1330 order.

 Called my m1330 at 11am 7/28

Ordered a Macbook Pro at 2pm 7/28

At 5pm 7/28, I received notification that my macbook pro had shipped

At 8pm 7/28, the macbook pro was at my doorstep.

The difference between apple and dell.

Hi guys I will never have any new information, but i will keep asking you to wait and saying sorry (cuz its easy to say without meaning or caring)

Your Incompetence as a company has forced me to cancel my order for my xps. your loss

ps. my new computer will not be a dell

I am a resonable person, but I had to cancel my xps order when you even lied to us when you were telling us when you were going to update your equivocal information.

tells me something about your company. I went with MAC

YOUR DELAY COST YOU A CUSTOMER, I HAVE JUST CANCELED.

....and now they are charging me an order that may never ship or may be lost in their pathetic ordering system. i thought u only get charged if the order is actually shipped??? if the system hasn't even been built y charge?

what is dell trying to do now.. steal our money??? u are pathetic .. pathetic!!!

i think i should have done a little research before i ordered the system... a little googling on dell and their latest news will show that their bad rep is quickly becoming apparent in every spectrum of their business...i should have known u were nothing but trouble

i swear u will never get any customers again after this fiasco!!!

just look at this blog .. how many ppl are already turning to your competitors!!!

you lost big time

The 12 inch ultraportable macbook pro is going to blow your mind. Some rumors circulating that is will be released on august 7. Bootcamp +Vista+MBP= no more need for dell.

this is really unfortunate.  I'm starting back to school in a month and had planned on buying a 1330.  Since I've sold my other laptop, I guess I need to head another way.

They sure can get literature featuring the 1330 to my office quick.  I'm sure those things are a month+ in the pipeline, but it's still funny to see so much of their marketing going toward a computer that you can't get!

In fairness to Dell, the delays are abnormal but some of the behavior exhibited by some individuals is down right childish. Someone said there are alternatives, venting is one, but finding another computer from a competitor is another. I too got caught up in the frenzy but I knew what I was getting into.  My shipping date was shown as August 30th, then pushed back a week. Disappointment? Yes. Can I cope with having to wait a week? I believe so. My only problem with Dell is the conflicting stories by sales reps and lack of communication. They should work on this.

Now on a positive note, today I spoke with a dell customer service representative from the XPS division. He was very understanding, patient, and helpful. Dell, if you're reading this, please take note that I received this superior service from a person whose email signature is KARTHIKEYAN.  My experience with him made this purchase go from a bad situation to a great situation.

Some words of advice, try being nice to your sales rep; 'treat others, as you would like to be treated'.

My suggestion is to stop idolizing this computer. It is merely a computer, surely you have another to hold you over.

I won't stand for this!  Cancel my order!  There are other competitor's you know!?  I paid a lot.  I ordered on the first day.  I have to start school soon!  Oh wait, my mom's kicking me off the computer.  Gotta go, I only have 5 more minutes to check the status again for the 100th time today before she turns the lights out.

I recently canceled my order of this xps.

I got a HP instead. Using it right now in in fact. I implore all others to GO OUT AND CANCEL AND GET ANOTHER SYSTEM, DON'T LET DELL TREAT US LIKE THIS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just to keep you guys informed as to what I am doing.

I have canceled and bought an Asus.

You have lost my buisness

Canceled and will never order from you guys again

My name is George and i will never order from dell in my life and will adamently persuade others to do the same.

You guys are slow and this is horrible.

be ashamed of yourselves.

I bet you guys have more people moderating this blog than actually building the system

I ordered an m1330 after extensive research because I thought it was the best computer.

I have recently canceled because it took so long to deliver.

I will never again buy a dell (just thought you should know that).

Now I know why apple overtook dell
They actually give products to there customers when the customers give them $1800 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey, thanks to all the comments that have given some suggestions for other laptops. You've convinced me to vote with my feet!  I'm going to the mac store right now.  I realize the MBP is heavier than the nonexistent m1330, but that's one of it's selling powers.

And yeah, those of us who ordered early should get a free bag, but isn't a free IPod Nano even better?  So Dell, if you start giving away IPods, maybe I would ever consider buying from you again.

And while I'm on a rant, don't you think this blog is also a pretty bad marketing idea?  They aren't even responding to us, so it's basically a place for all former and potential customers to rant about how terrible Dell is.  If I didn't know that EVERYONE was getting treated like this, I probably would have just thought it was my own bad luck, cancelled my order, and gone on with life.  Now I have a VENDETTA, and I will not rest until every one of my friends and business partners agrees to never buy Dell ever again.

Worst launch ever.

I need to have my computer soon and i wish you guys would just get going.

no more excuses, please just get us our laptops

I dont want your excuses I just want my m1330

I ordered when it first came out. I thought you were a superior company, guess Apple and Sony are better considering you can buy there products the day they come out (ps3, iphone)

I think i will just buy a mac book, you stink dell

Lifetime dell buyer who will never buy another one

Hi I have bought all of my 7 computers from dell and after this experience will never buy another.

I am 78 years old and I just feel that this is awful. I have never had this bad service in my long life

What happened to the days when people were honest.

HONESTLY!

7/20:  “status update by mid-next week.”

7/25:  “should have a brief update by sometime tomorrow”

7/27:  “hope to share more soon.”

Information about the M1330 appears as scarce as the computers themselves.

While we wait for Dell to weed through the excuses customer service has already used up, I’ll give you my story.  Ordered an M1330 on 6/30 and was given an expected ship date of 8/22.  A bit long, but I assumed this was something of a pre-order, and didn’t realize that people who ordered in mid-July were being told to expect a computer in  a few weeks.  This week, my wife’s credit cards were stolen (including the one the M1330 was on).  Since we closed the account, and Dell hadn’t charged the card (needless to say, the computer hadn’t shipped by then), I had to move it to another card.  This required 3+ hours with customer service and four different reps before being told that the only option was to cancel the order and resubmit on the new card.  Now I’m looking at a 9/11 ship date – nearly 2 and a half months post-original order (and no Timbuk2 bag, either).  I might add that I spent more time on hold with Dell than my wife spent at the DMV (during lunchtime, no less) replacing her stolen driver’s license.  That’s right, Dell’s customer service makes the DMV look good.

One good thing about the extended delay – I ordered the M1330 because I really like the ~4 pound, 13.3 inch form factor (I’m replacing a Sony S260 that has a broken motherboard), and there really wasn’t much out there in late June.  Since that time, however, Toshiba has released the U300 and M8 (albeit with X3100 graphics only) and the Sony SZ6 series should (!) come out Sunday (it’s on the b2b site but not the sonystyle site as of 7/27).  The SZ650 with a T7500, LED backlit screen, switchable 8400M GS/X3100 graphics, and generally similar configuration to the M1330 retails at ~2350 with a 3 year comprehensive warranty – pretty much right between the Dell Home and EPP prices.  Dell occasionally has coupons (or bags) and Sonys can be bought 5-10% off list, so the price of the SZ6 line looks to be pretty much even with the M1330’s.  The high-end SZs include the T7700, and all of the new SZ6’s have Bluetooth and the LED/LCD screen (with camera).  Also available is a 200 Gb hd at either 4200 or 7200rpm, depending on which flyer has the typo.  I presume they all have wrist-rests, so that pretty much covers the items that Dell seems to be having issues with.  At this point, I don’t know about stock/delivery, and it may turn out as bad as the M1330’s (less likely, since these are basically Santa Rosa versions of the SZ4 line and most pre-production delays have been worked out).

I’ll have to check on the keyboard feel.  The S series was fine for me, and what I’ve read about the SZ series is that it takes getting used to.  So the nice thing with this latest shipping delay is that I can go to Best Buy or Office Depot and check the Sony’s and Toshiba’s out, decide if I like one of them, buy one, beat on it for a month, and then cancel my order with Dell in September.

Sorry for the long post - had a lot of time while on hold this week...

These promises of information but lack of delivery is only infuriating people. I'm honestly not sure what I'd rather at this point, complete silence or broken promises.

I think we can safely assume that one of the major problems is the lack of LCD panels, as other Dell laptops are starting to rack up delays from certain panel configurations as well. It doesn't seem to be limited to the M1330.

As well, judging by the severe lack of M1330 systems that have shipped, I'm willing to bet there were some production issues as even a parts shortage shouldn't meant only a handful of machines could be built - unless the parts shortages were that severe, in which case, perhaps it would have been prudent to delay the machine altogether.

Be honest with us Dell, we want to know what's happening with our orders. I'm definetely cancelling my M1330 order...  This is such a scam.

DO YOU NOT SEE THE FREQUENT COMMONALITY HERE?  JUST TELL US WHAT IS GOING ON?  YOU'RE SORTING OUT DETAILS?!  JUST TELL US THE TRUTH!!!  UNBELIEVABLE!

Just freakin' tell us what is going on in production.  I am so sick and tired of waiting around for a product I may never get.  If you would just be honest and let us know what's up then I would be willing to stick around until it gets resolved, but keeping us in the dark like this is making me wonder if I really should be willing to even buy a computer from Dell.

I don't even really know why I'm not going with a MBP.  Same price, better specs, and what's this deal about being the thinnest??  Sure at the thin end of the wedge, but the MBP has it beat by 1/4" on the back end.  I really wanted a light laptop for school, but at only 1.5lb more, its just as good.

Update: 7/27: We're still working through some details and hope to share more soon. My apologies for the delay in communication."

Now that was a really informative Update and reassuring .. now I can rest that my Dell is going to get to me SOON heheheeh what a joke !

Thanks for your efforts Lionel and keep apologizing for the delays in communication, I mean that's the best part of it all

Response to David:

The Sony Vaio SZ6 is highly similar to the XPS M1330 with one exception; a mushy soft keypad that just turned me off. You know the firmness and deep 8mm keystrokes that accompanies all Lenovo Thinkpad notebook but the Sony Vaio's keypad is just plain bad. I had worries of the XPS M1330 having bad keyboard keys but after reading the CNET review, my doubts had dissolved away.

Wassup Lionel?

At least let us know you're working on something...

Kimo: I did just that in an update to this post a few minutes ago. Thanks...

I canceled my order after being given the run around again yesterday. In fact, Dell told me to cancel my order and re-roder so I could get the proper 6cell battery and the free carrying case. They assured me that canceling the order and re-rordering would not cause a delay and that I might actually get the notebook faster.

Well, I did one better. I canceled the order altogether. Hopefully y'all have the act together by the time Montevina comes out.

For your amusement, I've now re-written Dell's blog page:

ORIGINAL:

"I know several of you are expecting an update on the status of the XPS M1330. Truth is that I still need a bit more time to finalize the details. I should have a brief update by sometime tomorrow."

THE TRUTH:

"I know millions upon millions of you are frustrated to all heck and are demanding an update on the status of the M1330s. The truth is....hahahaha....I said truth....err, sorry. Ahem. The lies are that I need a month or two to finalize my holiday plans. Did I say holiday plans? I meant information for you, my dear foolish consumers. The details I will provide, maybe, are now in pre-production with an estimated post day of 10/25/07. I should have a non-existent update tomorrow.

PS Please enjoy the new case we now offer for free with all our non-existent M1330s we sell!"

why hasn't the media picked up on this.. as Dell's worst new product launch ever???? i'll bet with the media pressure someone will surely pick up their speed or at least give their customers some honest answers and expectation!!!!

What i have to say? lots of ppl complaining, and i am one more. My family is buying dells from long time ago, lots of them for my business. From now on, they will search other computers. This is not the first time it happen, but for me and my family, will be the last one.

Cancelling my order now, cya dell, i hope other ppl open their eyes like me.

Sweden is dissapointed too!

Mr. Menchaca,

When posting on 7/25 there will be an update on the status of the XPS m1330 and it does not happen now TWO days later, this really makes some of worry about whats going on with this product. The worst comes to mind like quality issues and lemons being shipped just to get them out, or them not getting out at all for much longer than Dell's promised 30 days policy. PLEASE, when you create an expectation for an update, DELIVER it as you state. REALLY bad customer service IMHO.

I ordered June 26th and have an estimated ship date of July 31. I had been told when I ordered to expect a 2 week ship date. I will give Dell until July 31 to ship as promised. If not I will get a Vaio SZ6 series laptop which will be available August 1rst. I am very tired of waiting. The XPS 1330 looks like a great laptop and I hope I will get it, but there are alternatives.

Wasn't tomorrow yesterday?

I really need this laptop before I leave to go to college this fall!

I do not want to cut in line before anyone else who has ordered before me but I just hope that they will speed up everyone's order and ship them to me fast.

I'm seriously contemplate on cancelling the order and purchase a Macbook pro with better specifications (yes, they have a better graphics card, similar processor speed, similar ram config, similar harddrive options for an overall lower price) I even get a student discount from my college and a FREE NANO :-) and it'll all be shipped to me in 7-10 days! Not 49 days for an XPS

Do we actually get the promised update? And to that note, it almost seems like Dell as a company is ignoring us even though it's more than evident of the ongoing problems that face this situation. Here's a proposed solution: tell the customers the truth and deliver the laptops in the order they were made, not in some random order.

On day 2 of no m1330 updates...as promised on July 26.  Where are you Dell?  This is a horrible roll out.

If Dell can't even keep the date promised for an update (I thought more info would be coming yesterday), how can they keep the dates for assembling and sending out hardware?

Sad thing, many competitors don't seem to be any better, so maybe in future one really has to go into the store and buy something off-the-shelf.

So... where's that update?

Paul LONDON

I just discovered that DELL has taken the money out

of my account. When they specifically stated that they would

not until the system was shipped. Has anyone else had this?

Why should i pay for a product thats not even buildt yet???

Im outraged!!!!!!

Update???:
I came here hoping for an update but found none.  If you're going to offer an update on a specific date that update should happen on that date!  If there is a delay we should be told that there will be a delay in the update and given an estimate.  Ironically this is what should be happening with the m1330's!   We just want accurate honest information so that we can make an informed decision!

My Experience:
I initially had a ship date the beginning of August, but b/c they couldn't simply adjust the previous order they had to cancel and reorder the whole thing.  Ship date 8/31.

My customer service experience has been like everyone else's I'm sorry to say.  Promises that never came to fruition.

Possible Solution:
I agree with a previous poster that all m1330's ordered should receive a free Timbuk 2 bag.  Customer service should contact everyone that ordered, give them an accurate updated ship date, and offer the bag if they're still interested in keeping their order.  Additionally, if any other "free" promotions are added between now and lets say 10 days before our order ships, we should receive those promotions for free as well, or a retroactive credit.

I'm sure there is a concern about going ahead with something like this financially, but my belief is that it's necessary to help take the sting out of this fiasco.

Mathew Bevan
Wheres that update then ??

You people at Dell have learned nothing from the XPS 700 launch, it's the same old story, no communication, people on the phone not knowing what's going on, getting lied to just to get you off the phone, I honestly was thinking that Dell might have learned from their past mistakes. You guys learned nothing.. {and you Lionel are the one left holding the bag and are the only one who tries to get the info out to these people, I praise you for the work you do on this Blog, It seem like you actually care about what has happened to these People and want to fixed it }

The people who decide to launch the new products at Dell are not taking to the people on the production side of Dell to see if they can build the new  system  yet and are ready for the launch, You guys and gals at Dell start taking to each other, get everyone on the same page before you launch something all the way from Mr. Dell himself to your customer service people, who are told nothing.

I feel for all you XPS 1330 people. I am a XPS 700 owner and it's been one ugly year for us, Finally there is light at the end of the tunnel. Good luck to you all.  DELL JUST BE HONEST WITH THESE XPS 1330 PEOPLE AND COMMUNICATE, IT"S NOT HARD TO DO.....Cheers.

Isn't this Dell's official blog, right?  Wow, now, Dell "officially" lies.

Your customer service is horrible.  After waiting on hold for a long time when finally talking to a rep I said this service is really poor, they promptly told me to change my tone.  I told them bye . . .  get your act together.  Put your customers first while you still have them.

My ship date is 31 July and ordered on 26 June. Nothing to complain personally but certainly this product launch and others has not been handled very well.  I have been a Dell customer since the PC Limited days and got my Corp ( a top 5 defence company) to switch from IBM to Dells.  Back then the product and customer service was top rated and only since the India outsourcing has it gone from A+ to D---.

Certainly the business model has changed, and I applaud Dell's moving toward the retail outlet. However the old line INTERNET customers is still the bread and butter of the company.  DELL needs to make it right to ALL customers affected by the overwhelming demand for the product and the lack of the ability to handle.  With over 5000 posts in a notebook review forum - pretty much shows that DELL is not doing enough and with people swearing to go to SONY only your competitors benefit.

Lionel where is this so called updated which we're promised two days ago , I’m extremely disappointed with dell's poor and sometimes inaccurate feedback to their customers. I’ve ordered this dam XPS m1330 for 6 weeks now not even  one single courtesy call from my account manager to update me with my status.  I don’t see with I should keep up with this nonsense.  I’am constantly travelling around europe and don’t have the time to keep calling dell and asking for update , I’ve decided to cancel my dell order and never to referee dell  to any of colleagues/friends. DELL WAKE UP WE LIVE IN THE 21ST BAD NEWS AND BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE GETS PUBLICIZED BEFORE U CAN SAY “DELL” ESPCAILLY THROUGH THE INTERNET. I PROMISE NEVER EVER TO PAY ANY DELL PRODUCTS.

Nicholas P.

I ordered my M1330 on 6/29 with an original estimated ship date of around 7/25. Appx. one week after the order, the ship date was pushed back to 8/3 (estimated delivery around 8/10). I can only hope that this date will not be pushed back again as I absolutely need the laptop before 8/13 for law school. Now I find myself checking the site and calling the automated status number every day in the hopes that it won't be pushed back any farther. The fact that Dell has broken yet another promise by not posting the update yesterday (the 26th) that Lionel said he would just makes me question more and more my decision to buy another Dell.

Breaking promises, treating (well-)paying customers like trash, and abhorrent product release planning are not the ways to encourage new and continued business.

(no more) Waiting in line

Hey Lionel, no news is good news ...?

Don't worry, this silence screams loud to Gartner's and al.

Good luck !

(and now off to buying a Sony 2 weeks after a CSR emailed me "only a handful of hours before your 1330 ships, sir")

Alan Willens

Well ...

It's the day AFTER tomorrow and still nothing here from Dell.  Just like the process of building and shipping the computers.

My M1330 was ordered 6/27, estimated ship date at the time 7/27, and ever since the day after order showing as "In Production" for a whole month now, promised to ship 8/1.  I wouldn't bet my life on it, even though the only "problem" component I ordered was Bluetooth.

With their level of openness and honesty, these guys could run the Bush Justice Department!

I'm in italy and i'm very disappointed...

Ordered my m1330 july 3th and got billed for 1941€ jly 6th with an EDD for july 30th.

I spoke several times with my sales rep and she assured me that the order will have be shipped for that date, then the july 25th i got an email when the EDD of my order changed to agusust 29th...

That's just inaccettable. I ALREADY PAID for this computer and i will get it TWO MONTHS later, when the initial EDD was less than one month (still accettable).

I don't know what to think, but i'm very angry.

Is it tomorrow yet?  I want to know what's going on.

I paid a $400 premium to be one of the first to order this when it came onto the Australian website.  Considering the delay I would think that refunding the excess would be the least Dell could do to keep a customer happy.  However, I'm told I have to cancel,re-order and be put at the end of the queue to get todays price!!!  Doesn't that sound ridiculous!!!!!???

When I parted with my hard earned cash for this notebook on June 30, I did so in good faith that Dell would deliver by July 16.  Now I'm told I have to wait until July 7.  But I'm not holding my breath.

Lionel,

I'm in the same boat as most of the above folks and am banging my head off the wall in frustration about this BUT I also work in CS and Tech Support so big hugs for ya bro. Thanks for the update and for having the balls to be the one to stand on the steps and tell us even some of whats going on.

I see that a promised update due in a week, then a comment that it will be available in the following day gets met with no update at all. I see a trend. Apparently Dell's word is about as solid as thier promised shipping dates.

Can this be any more of a public relations fiasco?

I'm a little confused about this post.

On Wednesday, July 25, 2007, Lionel Menchaca, Digital Media Manager, promised an "XPS 1330 Update Tomorrow".

Was July 26 the estimated delivery date for this update ? ;-D
(where I live, we already are the day after tomorrow...)

Tsk tsk, do NOT edit posts by disappearing the old content!

Dell loyal Customer
It's good everyone cancelling their orders... so mine will be shipped sooner.... yeah!!!!!!

Rosewood

of course those dates are estimations. But please consider that most of the early customers of this laptop had their estimated dates pushed back (from mid July to August or even later), and that we were told on the phone that it should take as usually around 10 days to get it. I have no problem with the current estimations, at least that's clear. On the french website it's stated "5 weeks delay for this laptop". That's normal communication: there is a delay, customers are informed about it.

But for the first customers (people who are more or less taking a risk by putting a lot of money on a new laptop), they were NOT told about the delay. If you can't trust the sales rep, who can you trust?? They kept on repeating "don't worry, the estimation is wrong, you will get it faster". Then it's delayed, and nobody knows why. And finally, to make it even worst, some customers who ordered it AFTER the early customers begin to get their laptop.

I agree with you, it's just a computer. This is going a bit to far sometimes in my opinion. But it can be a professionnal tool for some customers, and for some others it's a lot of money and savings they put on it. Plus computers value is decreasing extremely fast, so 2 months waiting for it is a waste of time and money.

I'm quite sure most of those customers were regular Dell customers, as they went on this laptop during the first few days. That's just trust in this company. I did the same. We were used to a good customer service, with quite fast delivery delay. That's why we all trustes the sales rep. So this is not something you enjoy when you trust in something and get disappointed.

I know  it does not justify some very excessive reactions, but that's just some more information to explain you why some customers are very disappointed.

How long will the lies last?

I understand people are trying to do there jobs but how long will it take to start giving the CUSTOMERS what they asked for.

We chose your company and this is how we are rewarded?

I give up....    you can't even keep a blog deadline!

There's enough of us out there willing to wait.  This is the best thing out there and you'd be a fool to cancel.

Let me just say that the reason dell treats you poorly because you allow them to. I ordered on Jun 28 (originally ordered on the 26 but sales pulled this trick where they say: your debit card has a limit...why don't you apply for dell credit? I called my bank and they denied any limit or any electronic request for funds that day) Before it became available I had waited 2 months after seeing the laptop on engadget. I went laptop-less that entire time using my windows mobile pda. I had to drive to school to type documents and such. I wanted this laptop so bad I lost my sense of dignity - this last week after reading about shipping delays, I would call daily to verify that I was still scheduled for July 30. Worst off, I was rude to the support people - after all, these poor people in india have no choice but to lie about the order status. They need that dell pay check for food and medicine.

To reiterate: Don't let dell treat you this way. Pick up a new sony, hp or apple laptop. All are viable alternatives. I now have the macbook pro (see above post ). If you are a student or teacher they will give you 200 dollars off - no haggling required (again they respect you too much), free nano and everyone can get the free scanner/printer/copier. This laptop has got the 8600m GT, not the weak and crappy 8400m gs. Bootcamp 1.3 works flawlessly. I already have vista intalled. All the drivers work right out of the box. I even have my microsoft presenter mouse 8000 installed with no problems. Let me stress that this new mouse was sitting in it's box untouched for 4 weeks. I had ordered it 2 days after I ordered my dell. I could go on and on. Don't let dell treat you this way. Vote with your wallet.

Toyota Driver

XPS is supposed to be the luxury brand of computers. Per Kevin Rollins, ex-Ceo.

http://news.com.com/Dell+to+launch+Lexus+lineup+of+PCs/2100-1042_3-5730030.html

Do you you think Toyota would sell many Lexus'  if they mimiced Dell's approach?

I don't drive a Lexus cause I think it's silly to spend that much money on a car. But I do drive a Toyota and the service and support from Toyota is far superior to anything I have driven in the past and from Lexus owners I have talked too, it's even better over there. Dell, can't you do the same thing with XPS?

If I had image reasons (realtor, sales rep, etc.) to buy a new car, it'd be a Lexus.

Imagine all the sales reps, CTOs, CIOs, realtors, and other image conscious types buying this system, hearing the Lexus line and then getting Yugo level service...

I want my Lexus!!

I ordered a m1330 in early july and was given a ship date of 8/31 but my customer service representative told me i would have it shipped to me in 1-2 weeks. The thing is I need the laptop for college and I would not have purchased it if i knew it would take this long.

I just wanted a quality laptop and i thought that dell would deliver. i was wrong

One more day I am giving Dell. EOB Friday, if no change I am cancelling the order and buying a Sony.

Great! Again we are ignored (go figure)!!

For many of us, these laptops were more expensive than a down payment on a BMW.  For me personally, this is the most money I've spent on any singular item all year.

Any of the other leaders in the industry would at the very least send out a pro-active email notification apologizing for the delay, and explaining that production issues account for exhausting lead times (come on Dell, would it really be that hard?).

Dell has done nothing but break promise after promise.

Problems Dell needs to correct (ALL ARE IMPORTANT):

1. The shipment date fiasco. I don't need to explain this one.
2. Management of the available parts on the system configuration utility. The available parts should be planned out way in advance before ever posting them. Figure out whats compatible, and whats not. Dont' tell the customer their order is invalid AFTER the fact.
3. Don't try to rush it. Rushing leads to #1 and #2. If you specify a launch date, make sure you can meet it.
4. Don't lie to the customer. That is the numero-uno fact of doing great business. There were lots of people giving varying experiences with customer service on why their order all of a sudden was delayed an extra two weeks, or even worse, not even telling the customer their order had been cancelled. Now some people had to scramble to get alternative laptops in order for them to use for school or work.

Failing in all of the above, Dell has lost potential first time buyers like myself. Buyers who might look to Dell again in the future for repeat business.

So Dell, what are you going to do to remedy this situation?

Jeff: I think that is what is getting to me. I ordered 1 day after the laptop was made available to buy on the site. I am going on faith pretty much that Dell will make a decent product, and that it will meet the specs hype etc.

The people who order early like us should not be getting brushed aside, and have all the people coming in late now after reading our thoughts about this great product and word of mouth to get the system before we do. It's upsetting to see people ordering on July 10th or July 14th and going into Boxing already.

Everything is just so messed up.

Every one of the customers who have been waiting for weeks and weeks should be gifted by Dell with one of those Timbuktu bags just for not cancelling.     Ship one bag when each M1330 order actually ships.  We're paying a premium price for this product and getting runarounds and dealing with long phone calls and misinformation.   I should mention I actually got an M1330 and it was assembled incorrectly with the wrong screen.  I now have to wait who knows how long to get the replacement.

On a positive note, the support people who are handling the exchange did a super job. It's not their fault the parts are not in stock.

oh man, these horror stories got me on the edge about ordering a laptop from Dell when they finally get serious about GNU Linux instead of treating it like a toy. Looks like that's not happening even if they do get serious

I thought with the return of Michael Dell to the helm, things at Dell were supposed to improve, Dell would be interested in listening to customers. Sounds like things are just getting worser and worser each passing day.

I'm a little nerved that it would take a month to deliver a monitor. For crying out loud, it's not like you have a assemble the darn thing. You pretty have no excuse for not shipping a monitor on time.

Mr. Dell, your desire to be like Gates is pretty much making your customers miserable and could be sending your company belly up into the gutters. You must think pulling all these MS style vapor ware promises while jerking customers around will get you back on top, some how I seriously doubt it.

Lionel,

We do appreciate the job you are doing but this 1330 business is becoming a joke. Ever extending shipping estimates, people who ordered earlier still stuck in pre-production while those who ordered much, much later going into boxing and rude customer service are just some of the many problems.

I am seriously wondering whether this was the most botched product launch in recent history and to be frank, it is kinda surprising why any news outlet has not jumped on the story yet. Will make a great headline for Business Week or WSJ, I would imagine! Finding angry customers for a good quote or sound byte would not be a problem at all, I can assure you.

If by any chance you don't know the extent of the problem, head over to notebookreview.com. One of the threads about 1330 delays has more than 5000 postings, almost all of them critical of Dell. You must realize that for every person who posts on these forums, there are probably 20 others who don't but are at the same level of frustrations with Dell.

You must realize that the negative publicity Dell is getting through the forums and through word of mouth isn't going to be too good for business. Case in point, 3 of my roommates have already sworn never to buy a Dell after hearing my rantings.

You should make a serious effort to fix things, posting on this blog once in a while should just be a start. Think about going over to NBR and posting a response. Think about rewarding the customers who are stuck in line. Oh also, please, improve your customer service!

Whatever you chose to do, I don't think Dell has anything to lose at this point. Maybe you will be able to change some minds but I am sure many others have sworn off Dell for a long time to come.

Once again I don't understand what all the fuss is about.  I ordered my Laptop on 6/27.  I added the LED and the SSD and I knew the second I clicked to buy it that it would take awhile.  It is a brand new product with brand new parts that I knew was going to be wildly popular.

So, it did not surprise me that I didn't get an email confirmation until a day later (when other systems I order from Dell I get confirmed within 5 minutes).

Also, and I think this is a big thing, can the vast majority of you people not read?

Shipping Method:Next Business Day
Est. Ship Date:8/1/2007
Est. Delivery Date:8/2/2007

Est. means ESTIMATED.  In other words, that is their best guess as to when it will ship out.  At no time does anyone from Dell ever say that it WILL ship out by that point. Show me screen shots of emails and pages where it says that Dell WILL get you anything by a date.

Next time I hope that Dell gets a little more stock in before taking orders or has a system in place that will stop orders from being taken when they are out of hardware.  However, don't act like Dell killed your mother and raped your dog. You don't get your new toy so soon.  Boo hoo.

PS - To the people who are moving, etc... Do a chat with Dell and they will change the new shipping address.  Also, all you have to do is ask for next day delivery and they give it to you.

Two more hours and Dell loses me as a customer!

It's not just the M1330. I ordered a 19in Monitor, and the Black Timbuk2 Bag!!

The 19in Monitor still says shipping in 2 days on the Dell.com site, but my order has said Aug 1st ever since I placed the order on June 28th. Why does it take a month to ship a monitor, and why does the website not reflect the delay when you buy it?

So far I have not been getting angry though because, unlike other people, I have some time to wait, and I knew the estimated ship date of my laptop when I placed the order.

But what is making me angry for the first time now, is the Timbuk2 Laptop Bag. I had ordered it with my laptop back on June 28th, and it had an estimated ship date of August 29th!!! That was over 2 months and 1 month after I was meant to get my laptop. So this week I decided to cancel the bag, and order direct from Timbuk2.

Well today I see that Dell is giving away the exact same bag that I ordered for FREE. And people placing orders are getting estimated ship dates of August 8th! So not only do people ordering over a month after me have about a 50/50 chance of getting their laptop before me, they also get a free bag and will get it 3 weeks before I would have.

I have sent a request to customer service for a free bag to be added to my order, but I expect I will get a canned response about this not being possible without canceling my computer order and adding another 4 weeks to my ship date.

I do not mind waiting if Dell is having supply problems, but I feel that I am being made to wait because Dell is fulfilling orders placed after mine. It just makes me feel like I am of no importance and that is not a nice feeling.

I've been debating whether to buy a Dell XPS 1330 and was on the verge of picking up the phone to order today. However, all I've heard are negative things about Dell's customer service, delays on shipments of the new Vostros, Ispirons and XPS notebooks, especially for Canadian orders. There's lots of talk of Canadian orders being cancelled for no appararent reason and also no educational discounts for Canadian university students (or general discounts), like that in the US. I probably will settle for an Apple Macbook 1GB RAM and 120GB HD (which also includes an univeristy discount and free iPod!*yay*). Dell, once again has disappointed us.

Guess what guys. I am typing this on my new macbook pro. Canceling my m1330 tomorrow. I got a free nano, free printer, and 200 dollars off the comp. If you'll excuse me, I need to install windows vista.

I love how it is easy for dell to communicate anything that may attract new customers.  But when it regards keeping the current customer base (M1330's) on the status of the orders it is nothing but hyperbole.  Worst launch ever Dell, this is my first experience with you and I dare say it will be my last.

I am getting REALLY frustraited! I placed my order on June 27th! I paid the full prie of $1900 for my notebook. I have been patient. Since the day I ordered my online login has always said the status is under maintenance so I have had to call every day. My est Ship date is July 29th (a sunday), less than 3 days to go and I am still in the build stage. I wrote dell an email 3 days ago, 54 hours ago I got an automated response saying most emails are answered within 6 hours but here I am going on 55.... I called dell yesterday and the rep was VERY curt with me, gave me no answers to anything, and tried to get me off of the phone as fast as possible. I was told almost 3 weeks ago by a rep that I would recieve a phone call and/or email on July 23rd if my order had not yet been shipped but that day came and went without any contact from dell.

My patients has all but ran out and the Macbook Pro and Sony lines are starting to look better and better. I'm giving dell 1 more day to update my order.

What a shame that the launch of the XPS 1330 (and to an extent, the Inspirons) got off to such a poor start.  It's clear that the "cart was put before the horse."  I'm a long-time Dell customer that's watched from the sidelines (fortunately) and I feel for the frustrated customers.

And Dell is at a crucial point right now - this is the last thing Dell needs to "grow the home-user market."  It seems that short-term stockholder satisfaction got in the way of Dell's vision.  To quote directly from Dell's values (Soul of Dell):

  • Direct Relationships: We believe in being direct in all we do. We are committed to behaving ethically; responding to customer needs in a timely and reasonable manner; fostering open communications and building effective relationships with customers, partners, suppliers and each other; and operating without inefficient hierarchy and bureaucracy.

It's not too late Dell - Communicate to your customers.  Most will be much happier if they just receive some honest, consistent information in a timely manner (and perhaps you'll free up your sales reps from answering so many complaints).  Make it up to these customers when this is over.  "Escalate" this to the top.  And do it now before it is too late.

Just my thoughts from the sidelines.

Personally, I was going to wait out the delays quietly until Dell offered the Timbuk2 bags free with new orders.  But... it really rubs salt in the wound when Dell offers something like that after I have been waiting for nearly a month with no results.  Every person that has ordered a 1330 should get a free bag without even being asked.

I've had quite an experience as well... My original order was placed on June 27th. I say original because after being on pre-production for 3 weeks my order was cancelled. When I called I was told it was because of SKU problem and that the order would be recreated that day for me. When I called again the next day because it still hadn't been recreated I got lucky and reached an excellent rep. She recreated my order and offered to call me weekly until my order was shipped to keep me informed. What she couldn't do was change my new shipping date which was now set for mid Sept.
Lionel thank you for your time trying to keep us up to date. It seems that even you're having trouble finding out the whole extent of the problem though.

I think by sometime tomorrow he means, 11:59 PM...just like Dell to wait til the last minute.

Marie-Claude

guys,

seems like we are talking to deaf ears ..

the day will go by ,

the month will go by , we ll all receive our laptops , but if anything should be done is put some pressure on these guys to get a reimbursement of like 5~10%.

at the end of the day that is the one and only thing they could do at this point in time to keep me and most of us under the impression that we are dealing with one of the biggest corporations in the world.

I just spoke with a store kiosk rep and they said that if people ordered the system mid july you probably won't get it until a month and a half later... the xps m1330 at the store kiosk themselves have not arrived .. how can the ones that home owners order arrive first?

Speaking to the customer service reps on the phone are also useless. I called twice today and got two different responses... I think they are being trained to "pretend" to check the status of your system.. .when really they can't do n/e thing about the status... One said yea u'll get it on july 30th.. the other one said mid august.... both said they were checking their "logistics page"....

At least the store kiosk reps were honest....

Lionel: its Thursday... where is our update?

Bring on the lies!

Graham, nobody is being boxed in the UK! Everyone is in Pre-production.

@ Jimmy

I completely agree with you.  You might get a better chance that way.  FIFO policy?  It feels like their implementing the FILO policy!  (First-in Last-out).

If you have enough credit line, maybe it's better to just order another one or two.. and cancel the rest once one is shipped. You might be able to get the new deal as well (even though with free laptop bag, for me the total price was actually $50 more after discounts for the same specs...). I know this may be immoral, but if Dell won't reinforce a FIFO policy to honor those waiting in line, it might be the only choice to go if you want the M1330 as soon as possible...

Are we going to have an update?  The day is half way over!  :-)

I ordered my system on the 30th of June. I recieved confirmation of my order on the 3rd of July. On the 4th I recieved an email from Dell that stating: due to my configuration they could not include the biometric finger print reader (I still dont understand why?). They could proceed without the item or I could re-order with a different configuration. They also stated that due to the inconvenience they would process my order as a priority. I proceeded with the order and I recieved confirmation the same day. On the confirmation they had an estimated delivery date of the 20th of July.

On the 19th of July I recieved an email from Dell stating that there was a delay and I will recieve my order on or before the 14th of August.

Now after reading everyones comments, I'm beginning to seriously doubt that I will get my order on or before the 14th, even though my order was supposed to be processed as a priority.

So far my experience with Dell has not been a favourable one. I'm spending alot of money with Dell and I feel not only I, but everone should be treated better than this.

Take it from someone who runs a customer service department. What's happening here is a sham and should not be tolorated.

For all those complaining about shipment discrepancy dates, have you stopped to even consider the factors involved?  I.E. did one order a 9 cell battery, LED backlight, bluetooth, TV tuner, a white system color, etc?

Oh, now there is a free bag? Good to know, I guess, though now that I see I can't have it without waiting forever (again) I suppose it only upsets me more :(

Trebuin-

I too am in a similar boat. I am beginning to very much doubt that Dell will hit my ship date of 8/1 and am also stuck in build. I'll have to pay double shipping since I am moving on 8/3.

I also am very frustrated that people who have laptops with IDENTICAL specifications to mine (and in the same country USA/region) and ordered weeks later have their laptop. I (6/27 order date) am still stuck in build.

Dell pioneered this method of custom ordering laptops and it seems ridiculous that this launch has gone so poorly and out of order.

Hopefully they will get their act together and start production on these laptops in a hurry. Additionally, they should keep us better informed on an individual basis as to the status of these orders, because a lot of us have been waiting patiently and spent a lot of money to recive this laptop on time. Not to mention the fact that "on time" was already over a month's wait...

If it takes much longer I'll also have to cancel and go with Sony...

Marie-Claude

My 1330 Order was placed last week-- estimated ship date Sept. , that's almost 6 weeks time.

If I waited till spetember to get a laptop i d have a much better one for the price I am paying now.. there shoudl be some reimbursement of some sort like a 5% money back.

John Duesterhoeft

I am fairly upset as well when I see nearly identical builds ship while my June order sat in pre-production. Dell's CS has been abysmal in communicating the reasons for the delays.

I second Ben's suggestion.  Sending the Timbuk2 bag to the poor souls that ordered early would go a long way to smoothing ruffled feathers.

Lionel, it's a bit more than "several people" that are waiting for an update.  Y'all released a notebook, didn't ship it, and didn't really tell anyone why.  You've got some pissed off customers, compounded by the fact that people who ordered in the last couple weeks are getting their orders earlier than people who ordered on release day or thereabouts.

Fix your SKU problems.  Fix your supply chain problems.  Fix your design problems.  Fix your customer service and order status problems.

And do it before you release a new product next time, not after.  Dell isn't a young company, and they should know better.

Lionel, thanks for keeping us informed. I don't need to tell you what a terrible consumer relation event that Dell has brought upon itself. Your best & most loyal customers jumped on this laptop & Dell has really disappointed us. I suggest that when (if) these ever ship, that Dell provides us with some sort of "thank you" to make us forget this experience as soon as possible. Otherwise, I fear that this failed launch will forever tarnish your reputation & many of us will be shopping with other companies for our next purchase.

Yes I have to say it is very fristrating hearing that certain people are getting theres faster then those that ordered earlier if this is truly the case and I will wait to hear from deal. I will cancel my order and never again order from dell and I will also be sure to let everyone I know that is considering the purchase of a laptop how horrible Dell is in terms of customer service and honesty I do not mind delays I just hate liars

I heard there were problems with overheating with the T7700 processor and Dell pulled the option. I ordered on June 26th and Dell still estimates shipping July 31.

And the terrible news arrives after speaking with Dell: I have moved back into pre-production because of lack of palmrests.  My case has moved to upper management and a new shipping date is being drawn up.  I was told I would be notified when the palmrests will arrive.  That's 30 days, and back into pre-production.  I need to vent really bad.

I tried today to call in and see if the new "get a free Timbuk2 bag with the m1330" deal could be applied to my order I'm already waiting on.  They said I would have to cancel and re-order which would push my ship date back even further!

It seems that this would be a simple thing to apply this deal to orders for people who are waiting since these ship dates are so long and we have to endure new coupons and deals coming out while we wait.

Just a suggestion, but it might make life better for some of these people who are still in production, stuck in the Build stage.

My m1330 has been in the boxing stage for a week now and no one at Dell can tell me whats going on. I've called, email and chat with online support and no one has a clue about anything. It has been a highly frustrating 4 weeks and will definitely not do business with Dell again.

I'd also like to add that I know it's not your fault Lionel or most of Dell's employees.  Dell should have taken a stance to make sure that the laptops would have been produced in order with only the express need being bumped as I mentioned before, and that they could have met their "guaranteed" shipping date.  I really think this is a great laptop and worth the wait...I'm just upset that I have to pay a second shipping charge to get it here.  I guess I'll see tomorrow how much my date will be bumped back by.

I want the led screen option

Yea, I know the guy who ordered on the 16th and is in the testing stage.  I ordered on 26 JUNE and am still in the build stage with an expected delivery of tomorrow.  I have to pay at least $100 extra in shipping to actually get it to me before March of next year because Dell probably won't make the ship date of tomorrow.  THANKS A LOT!  Oh and I've mentioned before that the only other guy I work with who still has his order (ordered on 5 July) has been delivered to his parents in the states and is now on it's way here to Okinawa.  We have the same specs.  This is ridiculous that I'm still in build, having been one of the first to order and others are getting theirs well before me.  What can I say?  Well?

I am giving Dell one more day to get my order into Testing/Boxing or I am canceling.

What about the T7700 option ? It was offered at the XPS 1330 launch and for a few days in some markets, then pulled out. Some people still have it on order, will they be delivered ?

darren bull

Hi

I have been waiting for nearly a month for my laptop, the customer service teams are useless and are now resorting to lying in order to get you off the phone even when you prove them wrong on the phone. After my order being in pre-production since 07/07/07 I have now seen my online status change a delivery date from 30/07/07 to a date in September. This is riduculous as the PC spec will be 2 months old and the price will be out of date.

Also your terms and conditions state that the pc will be delivered within 30 days from order date!

I can get the truth from anyone. Also head office reception wont transfer me to the customer service director and so I keep getting transferred to an Indian call centre which is very frustrating.

Perhaps you have some news on these systems.

Thanks for your efforts Lionel, I would not like to be in your position with hundreds of angry customers knocking at your door. Looking forward to read your post.

Thanks again. I really do appreciate the time and attention you are giving us, I just wish we didn't have to go to such lengths to get the straight scoop!

Thanks...

I just learned even more disturbing news at NBR.  Apparently someone that ordered on July 16th is now in the testing stage (and soon to be boxing stage in a few hours).  How can someone skip people who have been waiting since June 26th (and they are still in pre-production)?!?!  It doesn't make sense at all nor is it fair!!!
