www.XPSUpgradeProgramDell.com

We are pleased to announce that we will launch the XPS 700 Motherboard Exchange Program worldwide on Monday, August 13, 2007.

On August 13, we will launch a website for XPS 700 and 710 customers to register for the program and to tell us what options you prefer. XPS 700 customers will be able to choose a Hardware Kit at no charge, and can also opt for on-site installation service at no charge. XPS 700 customers will also have the option of purchasing a quad-core QX6700 processor for 25% off our Electronics & Accessories price (pricing may vary depending on the time you order). XPS 710 customers will have the option of of purchasing a Hardware Kit and on-site installation service. Pricing and program offering details may vary by region and will be outlined in future posts.

This program will expire on October 13, 2007. All upgrade requests must be submitted no later than midnight Central Standard Time October 13, 2007. For more information, here's the very first post where we outlined the details of this program, and here's the link to the XPS 700 Motherboard Exchange Program category that contains all the information we've shared so far.

Between now and August 13, I'll plan to publish more details about how to prepare, how the process will work, pricing details for XPS 710 customers, and more. In the meantime, we'll continue to prepare for the rollout of this global program.

We appreciate your continued patience.

 Program Qualifications

All XPS 700 and 710 purchases made through June 30th, 2007 are eligible for this program.

Why the cut-off on the purchase date?  I just bought a XPS 710 from the Dell Outlet in July 2007 - so now I cannot be part of the upgrade?

Carl: Yes. Refurbished XPS 700 units purchased before June 1, 2007 are eligible for this program.

Pete: Unfortunately not. However, the XPS 720 board also supports the X6800 processor. You can continue to use your existing processor and upgrade to a quad-core later on down the road.

Pete Costreie
Does anybody knows if we can exchange the cpu, with motherboard(I have XPS700 with X6800 extreme cpu).Thanks.

Howdy,

I have a XPS 700 with a Pentium Extreme 965 CPU which was top of the line when I bought it.  I consider myself a power user and always try to get the best hardware I can. I noticed the only quad-core cpu your selling is the QX6700, the top one is the QX6850.  Will you (Dell) be offering the QX6850 CPU at 25% off and will the Motherboard we are upgradeing to support that CPU?

Joe: We'll only be offering the QX6700 for the 25% off price. Still not sure about the QX6850. At this point, the XPS development team is still testing. See this post for a bit more detail.

I would like to know if i am able to get in the program.I have a refurbish XPS 700 i bought in january.Do i qualify?

Lionel,

I asked a question a few posts up the page and u answered several people at the bottom-please give me an answer or at least some help

Mike

Hi,

I know the upgrades covers the 710 for a price but will it cover the 710H2C. As a 710H2C owner i don't really have any problems with the computer especially with the QX6700 in it, but if the option is available and the price is right then i'd like to upgrade. Will i be able to?

Cheers, Rob, Ireland

RobbieX: Yes, you will be able to. I'll share pricing details on a post coming August 13.

Tim: Yes, the Q6600 processor will work in the XPS 720 board.

Can anyone confirm that a Q6600 will work in the new motherboard?  This seems like the most bang for the buck currently available over my 1.86Ghz Core-2-Duo...

 Thanks for any information!

do you have to reinstall the operating system after the upgrade, if so do you have to do a custom installation or can you do a upgrade installation of the operating system??

Jack: We're recommending that you do a clean OS install after the upgrade. I'll have a post that talks about how to prepare for the upgrade coming soon.

Will this processor be available as an upgrade option?

http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=A0982831

Thanks,

Jim

Jim: Yes... the new XPS 720 board you will receive will support the Q6600 processor. With Intel's new pricing, that's a decent price/performance option.

Calm down they said there will be a update on the 13th so just wait! its amazing how impatient some people on here are

Is this program still going to launch on 8/13? I haven't seen any updates in a while and you said there would be more information coming.

Only 3 working days to launch, when will the update come, so we can prepare, before the 13th August ???

Time is running out, today is the 7th and you are suppose to launch on the 13th.  Where is this information?

 Thanks

Erik Hansson

I have the same problem as another Swede earlier asked about for a solution.

I have a XPS 710 and wants to upgrade it, but, yet but I bought it as SLI prepared machine with 8800 GTX card, the sales person told me that it would be Absolutely No problems at all to add a secondary 8800 GTX card, but now I have found out that it only have three power cords for the graphics card and yes many says, why didn't you purchased the red edition ? Well because Dell doesn't sell that one in Sweden and abviously misinform their customers.

For that matter you shall also in the upgrade kit also make One option for PSU, I have called so many support numbers on Dell and most says that I shall purchase a 3rd party PSU, that is a dumb answer.

I don't want to give you any escuses to hold me responsible during the warranty for anything if possible so 3rd party PSU is out of question and Dell should also be more serious and stop telling lies when selling products. This machine is Not SLI compatible with the delivered graphics card, it is only SLI compatible if I downgrade the graphics card to a 7950/7900 series, so stupid to do that as you probably agree with me,

Oh well, this package is a good idea, but still MANY of your customers will not get the chance to purchase a PSU with four power cords.

Please help me, feeling desperate since I need that extra 8800 GTX card soon or I have to purchase a more reliable solution than Dell.

Anyone have any idea if the QX6850 might work well with the new mobo?

this is what you will get :-

    * Front panel I/O assembly

    * XPS 720 Resource CD

    * Installation techsheet

LIONEL !!!!!

PLEASE RESPOND OR HAVE SOMEONE GET IN TOUCH AS CUSTOMER HELP IS NOT ALL THAT HELPFUL

 THANK YOU----MIKE

What about operating system cd/dvd?

Will Dell provide an install cd/dvd for XP or Vista at users option?

We all have an install cd/dvd that was delivered with the obsolete xps and have not been reassured that it will work with the new motherboard.

How about a definitive answer?

Thanks.

rboris: Not to worry. Your original operating system disc will work just fine to reinstall the operating system.

As part of the hardware kit, you will receive a Resource CD, otherwise known as a Driver & Utilities CD. It contains component driver for Windows XP and Vista.

Too good to be true.... 25% off what I thought was going to be the lower price....and I was in....but now, I'm taking my MoBo and running! I'll buy my QC elsewhere!

I purchase the QX6700 From dell last week for $951.15 and minus 100.00 for using my dell acount so it was 851.15 instead. I figure that dell only will give you the 25% off non sale price anyway. So I Think I'll do better now then later.

I noticed that too (the price increase) and thought the same thing but I wont be buying it anyway, just the upgrade mobo. Just that was the first thought that entered my mind when I saw that.

Best thing to do for Dell is just say '25% our lowest published price in the last 45 days' or some such that way people won't think they are upping it for a bad reason.

Has anyone else noticed that the price of the QX6700 on Dell's website just went up $170.00. I wonder if this is in anticipation of our 25% discount. Hmm?

StuckInARut

I don't want to sound picky, however we haven't had an update on this in some time. The signup date is approaching and I'm sure that there are others out there besides myself that would like to have more information about this.

I know you're busy, but maybe just a scrap or two to keep the hounds at bay as we await the signup day.

 Thanks Lionel

Dell, the 25% CPU discount would have been sweet if not for Intel releasing the Q6700 processor.

Q6700    8 MB L2    2.66 GHz    1066 MHz -

QX6700    8 MB L2    2.66 GHz    1066 MHz

The difference is the Q6700 has locked multiplier and is also G0 stepping.  The QX6700 has an unlocked multiplier and is B3 stepping.

The Q6700 is $600.00 less from any other online retailer.

What a "RIP" The QX6700 cpu which had dropped in price to $951.15 several days ago, is now listed on DELL's website at $1119!!!  Price's usually go down, not up. Seems like we, who were considering purchasing the optional cpu at 25% off, are being "set up"???

jack

I am waiting to hear the price for those of us who purchased from the outlet after 6/1. Thanks!!        Trying to decide if I can afford it or not (the upgrade)

Wow we are on 2nd page now. I still dont have an answer either about the memory (2GB2 Corsair Dominator DDR2 SDRAM 800MHz OC'd to 1066MHz-2 DIMMs) not being for sale on the Dell website. Its funny they can sell the machine 720 but not the memory. Chris gave me the spare parts number .1-800-372-3355 They could not find it either. Once again Dell is not responding. Anubis you can keep your XPS700 motherboard or if you choose they will send a special box to return it to them for proper disposal....

Reply to theEconomist:

You don't know much about the product for Dell world-wide, the red model is NOT available in most countries in the world, I got a XPS 710 just because Dimension had too weak PSU, when ordered it they also knew my future intensions was to use dual Geforce 8800 GTX (I have now one 8800 GTX).

But I doubt anyway they would help me get a 1000 W with four power cords for the graphics card since that "red" model does not exist anywhere near here in Europe.

Lionel,

Thanks again for your efforts on my part - my system isn't quite right yet, but at least they're actually working on it now.

Keep the XPS 700 mobo?  Sounds good. I am sure you can keep the 700,  if you buy the 720 kit and have that kit sent to you. If you get a free exchange, then the word "exchange" sort of tells the story.

Hello Lionel...

im sorry for being persistant but im really curious,

and iv asked this 3 times and not recieved an answer yet >.<

i know your a buisy man and i dont blame you at all,

however if you have any free time please take you time to answer me,

will the xps700 motherboard be taken back to dell after the exchange?

or can we keep it?

hope we can :) though i would unferstand iif we cdnt >.<

Lionel, my situation is a bit complicated... i'm outside US and i've made the transfer of the machine, but in august, i'll be travelling in europe, what kind of info I will need to fill the form?

 thanks you very much.

Only the RED chassis 1000 watt power supply has 4 power cords for high end video cards. Dell thought the 750 watt in the Black chassis would not have the power for that, thus 3 cords only. That is my guess. Buy the RED if you want FULL power.

THis mobo roll out will be hard enough, they won't be into exchanging power supplies and video cards, and what have you. Those have always been BYO.

So no one knows the Kit price yet that we pay if it is not free for our system?

Hey Lionel,

I was wondering at the same time if an upgrade option would be available for Video Cards. I'm considering buying a 8800 Ultra from Newegg and selling my 7950's through e-bay. However I might consider buying through Dell if I could turn them over to you guys for a discount rate on the 8800. Looking forward to the motherboard update as well guys.

It wont have the new motherboard, it might have the 590 sli, im not sure if it will support quad processors.

I just bought a XPS 700 from the outlet store yesterday.  I know June 1st was the cut off.  Will I have the option to buy it? or will the refurbished one have the new motherboard?  Should I just cancel this order?  Help!!!!

christopher

actually the dell OS CD be it vista, XP, 2000 does not contain bloat ware it is a OEM cd so it will have the dell logo in a few locations.

and for the osri i doubt you will have to reinstall.

After the motherboard is replaced (either by Dell or by the user), will Windows have to be reinstalled?  If so, will Dell furnish a *Windows CD* so that the OS can be installed without all the bloatware that we users have spent so long getting rid of?  I rather doubt anyone will want to use a Dell reinstallation CD that puts all that junk back on!

Thanks for finally getting this situation resolved Lionel.  The mobo exchange program is coming at the right time when processors are dropping in price.  Plus games like Crysis are around the corner so I can justify a cpu upgrade with the new mobo.

 Thanks and good work.

 Tony

Will we also get an option to get a new Power Supply Unit ?

The one that came with XPS 710 doesnt have four power cords for dual Geforce 8800 GTX cards which is not good, or are there any other solution with a split ?

Losing any A or V because of a splitter is not an option because that will  make the graphics card to not perform at maximum.

One last thing, All we who has purchased a XPS 710 * do we also get any kind of good discount ?  Since my machine is only 3-4 months old and I dont want to waste a fortune on a new motherboard with Quad CPU, but still want that for a reasonable price.

Thanks a lot in advance for any kind of reply :)

/Roberth

http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=85026-4  Is the only place i can find the corsair dominator. if you do get it there verify it is the 1066 Verified and not the 800!!!

I looked all through your Corsair Memory  http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/productdetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&s=dhs&cs=19&sku=A0726115  and i can not find this
2GB2 Corsair Dominator DDR2 SDRAM 800MHz OC'd to 1066MHz-2 DIMMs
  which is on the 720

For heaven's sake, you must know the PRICE of the kit for those of us who will want to buy !!

I need a 720 parts list. Chris said there is not one yet. Can you see if you can get us one so i can order some 720 parts....

Lionel,

If your “NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI Intel Edition (D)” supports FSB 1333, how will it react to a 1333FSB processor such as the Intel Core 2 Duo E6850? Note in ChrisM’s post dated 5/31, he advised that one of the updates made in Bios 1.4.1 was “support for new processors.” What I did not see was whether that support included Intel’s 1333FSB processors. Understand some 680i board manufactures had to amend their BIOS to make it work, and in that regard, see http://www.anandtech.com/cpuchipsets/showdoc.aspx?i=3042

Read speculation yesterday that NVIDIA is going to introduce a new mobo sometime in Nov., and in that regard see http://www.vr-zone.com/?i=5127. If true, will you folks offer another exchange program similar to the exchange program for the 710?

Pointguard1122

Great to finally see a date.  I now can plan my future upgrades accordingly.  We all want to know the answer to the question,

WHEN WILL THE UPGRADES BEGIN SHIPPING?

8/13, 14, ??

August 13... Sure, great I suppose...

BUT, when will the motherboards actually ship? For all we know the motherboards might not ship until August 13, 2008.

The XPS 700's were originally supposed to ship in May 2006, and we all know how sucessfully that went.

Worldwide Dell customer

Not meaning to be picky, but since this is a global program, I suggest this statement "All upgrade requests must be submitted no later than midnight Central Standard Time October 13, 2007." be revised to use the GMT as time reference instead of using Central Standard Time which is basically unknown of outside North America.

BTW, good job Dell!

Will any XPS 700 Purchased from Dell Outlet, take advantage of this upgrade?? Or are we dell outlet buyers out of luck?

YAY!!! Finally!! w00t! It'd be nice if there was another choice if we didnt want (OR CANT AFFORD =]  ) the processor. It would be awesome if Dell was offering the H2C cooling unit... or maybe an upgrade to vista ultimate... but I'm not expecting any changes. It must have cost plenty to get this whole program running. But IM EXCITED!!

What is really nice is that Dell is taking care of customers AFTER a sale. Most companies just sell their item and forget about previous consumers. What Dell is doing is ensuring repeat business (and its working....)

Thanks Lionel, and all of Dell for that matter!

Mike Tucker aka MnemonicSyntax aka CacheSyntax

GOOD JOB LIONEL AND DELL!

Though I don't own my XPS 700 any longer, it's great you guys came through.

Though an XPS mousepad would be sweet though....  ;)

Again, good job Lionel and Dell.

I want to make my machine as close to the 720 as possible. When i look for this memory i cannt find it

2GB2 Corsair Dominator DDR2 SDRAM 800MHz OC'd to 1066MHz-2 DIMMs

HOT DAMM!!!!! Thats All....... LOL

My XPS 710 that i purchased a month ago came with a 570 sli, according to nvidia control panel but customer service claim they dont even know the version and just gave me the features.

sst104siding
outstanding news!!!! Thank you Lionel for all the hard work you have done to bring the 700 customers the upgrade the have been asking for.Lionel you are a true leader. I like to thank all the behind the scenes men and women for a job well done.  Now if I can just find my #2 screwdriver...

Lionel,

Thanks for the start date.  Many "at-a-boys" to you, to the XPS 700 team, and to Dell to put this mobo exchange program together.  It appears the XPX 720 bugs are worked out and we should have no problems.  I hope your installers are good, will be able to get the new mobo system oprational, and don't cause other problems.

There still remain two unanswered questions: 1) regarding substitute Quad processor models or Dual core processors at any sort of discount; and 2) what nVidia 680i SLI chipset are we really getting (LT, not LT, original, 680ia, 650i, or what) in the 720 mobo?  Info on the 720 Forum threads indicate it is not as advertised - XPS 700 again?  Your feedback on these will be appreciated.

Thanks,

wtb

I purchased an XPS710 a month ago and it is being reported as a 570 sli A2 under ntune is this correct or is their and error. So shouldnt I be able to get the free upgrade like a xps700 owner.

Thats sweet news!! I feel the need for speed)))))))

CHSIsupplier
Thanks Lionel! It's still not the same as having the board in my hands, but it's great to see a date in writing. I appreciate all the work you guys are putting in over there!

Thank you

Andre Moraes
GREAT NEWS Lionel Thanks, ability to control the mobo and  have our systems set correctly.... uau ..was about time.

Lionel can you please post the specs for the mother board such as Chipset and other information. Perhaps this should be a new thread on  possible up grades for the new  MB. How will our old ram from the 700 compare to what the new MB can handle? I want a quad core but also am looking at the test that show core 2 duo beating the quad FOR NOW.

Impatient...

Lionel, thank you for the update. We will continue to wait (im)patiently. In the meantime, could you please research the warranty issue and let us know what the warranty status of the computers wil be after the mobo exchange?

Dell has strict warranties when it comes to add-on components that did not come with the original build of the system, so we'll need some clarification before we perform the upgrade. It would be nice if the website clearly outlined the policies.

Thx, have a nice weekend

Brian Toogood
Thank you Lionel! This is the news I've been waiting for. Aug 13th will be here before we know it. As another post above asked... I wonder how long it will take to ship the boards and get on-site installation once things get started? Will it take months for the end users to actually complete this process? Have a good weekend!

Steven Dowling Jr
Thanks for continuing to keep to your word. You guys seem to be turning things around for the better - actions speak louder than words and you've been consistent. Keep it up.

Will the new QC procs be available then at the new Intel prices (-25%)?

Will refurb'ed 700's get the free exchange?

Wow excelents news!
This will be the more long month in months! xD

Excellent news, I can't wait to get this process rolling.

Yes!

Lloyd Hopper

Lionel, (and colleagues ofc)

Great news indeed. Thank you very much.

Tim McKenna
Thank you Dell,DCF, and lastly GB.

Fantastic!

Wow!!!!! I guess this is it!!!!

Thank you so much Lionel and the great team of Dell for doing this!!

Any idea how long it will take to ship the boards after Aug 13th?  Are we looking at 1-2 months or more like a week?

Hot Ding Dang, DELL!!

Thanks, Lionel!

David Marshall (gbakmars)

Lionel, You are working too late again!

How happy will you be when this motherboard ships! I know you haven't been stalling, unless you like to be sleep deprived! You are doing a great job. It has been a privilege and pleasure to watch you "listen" to customers.

In your previous One Year Anniversary post, you mentioned how you weren't as good as others in pushing out the material. You shouldn't be so hard on yourself. Your kindness, empathy for the customer, and willingness to admit mistakes, is flowing a whole lot faster than what anyone can "publish"!

Customers don't care how much you know. They want to know how much you care.

You are doing at Dell, what all companies should be doing for their customers. I hope that their bloggers are wanting to "be like Lionel"

Thanks for all that you have done for the XPS 700 customers.

 David

David: Thanks very much for the kind words... people are going to think I wrote it myself :)

Seriously though, you raise some good points about how important it is to approach this and every issue from a customer's perspective... definitely good advice.

Thanks again for sharing.

Hi,

I’m a 710H2C owner and will be curious to know what my options are and pricing, but excellent news all the same.

Thanks

Thank you Lionel! This is what we've all been waiting for. This is good news, very good news.
