Why the cut-off on the purchase date?  I just bought a XPS 710 from the Dell Outlet in July 2007 - so now I cannot be part of the upgrade?

 I have a XPS 700 with a Pentium Extreme 965 CPU which was top of the line when I bought it.  I consider myself a power user and always try to get the best hardware I can. I noticed the only quad-core cpu your selling is the QX6700, the top one is the QX6850.  Will you (Dell) be offering the QX6850 CPU at 25% off and will the Motherboard we are upgradeing to support that CPU?

I know the upgrades covers the 710 for a price but will it cover the 710H2C. As a 710H2C owner i don't really have any problems with the computer especially with the QX6700 in it, but if the option is available and the price is right then i'd like to upgrade. Will i be able to?

I have the same problem as another Swede earlier asked about for a solution.

I have a XPS 710 and wants to upgrade it, but, yet but I bought it as SLI prepared machine with 8800 GTX card, the sales person told me that it would be Absolutely No problems at all to add a secondary 8800 GTX card, but now I have found out that it only have three power cords for the graphics card and yes many says, why didn't you purchased the red edition ? Well because Dell doesn't sell that one in Sweden and abviously misinform their customers.

For that matter you shall also in the upgrade kit also make One option for PSU, I have called so many support numbers on Dell and most says that I shall purchase a 3rd party PSU, that is a dumb answer.

I don't want to give you any escuses to hold me responsible during the warranty for anything if possible so 3rd party PSU is out of question and Dell should also be more serious and stop telling lies when selling products. This machine is Not SLI compatible with the delivered graphics card, it is only SLI compatible if I downgrade the graphics card to a 7950/7900 series, so stupid to do that as you probably agree with me,

Oh well, this package is a good idea, but still MANY of your customers will not get the chance to purchase a PSU with four power cords.

Please help me, feeling desperate since I need that extra 8800 GTX card soon or I have to purchase a more reliable solution than Dell.

What about operating system cd/dvd?

Will Dell provide an install cd/dvd for XP or Vista at users option?

 We all have an install cd/dvd that was delivered with the obsolete xps and have not been reassured that it will work with the new motherboard.

Too good to be true.... 25% off what I thought was going to be the lower price....and I was in....but now, I'm taking my MoBo and running! I'll buy my QC elsewhere!

I noticed that too (the price increase) and thought the same thing but I wont be buying it anyway, just the upgrade mobo. Just that was the first thought that entered my mind when I saw that.

Best thing to do for Dell is just say '25% our lowest published price in the last 45 days' or some such that way people won't think they are upping it for a bad reason.

I don't want to sound picky, however we haven't had an update on this in some time. The signup date is approaching and I'm sure that there are others out there besides myself that would like to have more information about this.

 I know you're busy, but maybe just a scrap or two to keep the hounds at bay as we await the signup day.

Dell, the 25% CPU discount would have been sweet if not for Intel releasing the Q6700 processor.

Q6700    8 MB L2    2.66 GHz    1066 MHz -

QX6700    8 MB L2    2.66 GHz    1066 MHz     

The difference is the Q6700 has locked multiplier and is also G0 stepping.  The QX6700 has an unlocked multiplier and is B3 stepping.

The Q6700 is $600.00 less from any other online retailer.

What a "RIP" The QX6700 cpu which had dropped in price to $951.15 several days ago, is now listed on DELL's website at $1119!!!  Price's usually go down, not up. Seems like we, who were considering purchasing the optional cpu at 25% off, are being "set up"???

You don't know much about the product for Dell world-wide, the red model is NOT available in most countries in the world, I got a XPS 710 just because Dimension had too weak PSU, when ordered it they also knew my future intensions was to use dual Geforce 8800 GTX (I have now one 8800 GTX).

But I doubt anyway they would help me get a 1000 W with four power cords for the graphics card since that "red" model does not exist anywhere near here in Europe.

Keep the XPS 700 mobo?  Sounds good. I am sure you can keep the 700,  if you buy the 720 kit and have that kit sent to you. If you get a free exchange, then the word "exchange" sort of tells the story.

Only the RED chassis 1000 watt power supply has 4 power cords for high end video cards. Dell thought the 750 watt in the Black chassis would not have the power for that, thus 3 cords only. That is my guess. Buy the RED if you want FULL power.

THis mobo roll out will be hard enough, they won't be into exchanging power supplies and video cards, and what have you. Those have always been BYO.

So no one knows the Kit price yet that we pay if it is not free for our system?

 I was wondering at the same time if an upgrade option would be available for Video Cards. I'm considering buying a 8800 Ultra from Newegg and selling my 7950's through e-bay. However I might consider buying through Dell if I could turn them over to you guys for a discount rate on the 8800. Looking forward to the motherboard update as well guys.

It wont have the new motherboard, it might have the 590 sli, im not sure if it will support quad processors.

actually the dell OS CD be it vista, XP, 2000 does not contain bloat ware it is a OEM cd so it will have the dell logo in a few locations.

and for the osri i doubt you will have to reinstall. 

Thanks for finally getting this situation resolved Lionel.  The mobo exchange program is coming at the right time when processors are dropping in price.  Plus games like Crysis are around the corner so I can justify a cpu upgrade with the new mobo.

 The one that came with XPS 710 doesnt have four power cords for dual Geforce 8800 GTX cards which is not good, or are there any other solution with a split ? 

 Losing any A or V because of a splitter is not an option because that will  make the graphics card to not perform at maximum.

 One last thing, All we who has purchased a XPS 710 * do we also get any kind of good discount ?  Since my machine is only 3-4 months old and I dont want to waste a fortune on a new motherboard with Quad CPU, but still want that for a reasonable price.

If your “NVIDIA nForce 680i SLI Intel Edition (D)” supports FSB 1333, how will it react to a 1333FSB processor such as the Intel Core 2 Duo E6850? Note in ChrisM’s post dated 5/31, he advised that one of the updates made in Bios 1.4.1 was “support for new processors.” What I did not see was whether that support included Intel’s 1333FSB processors. August 13... Sure, great I suppose...

BUT, when will the motherboards actually ship? For all we know the motherboards might not ship until August 13, 2008. 

The XPS 700's were originally supposed to ship in May 2006, and we all know how sucessfully that went.

Not meaning to be picky, but since this is a global program, I suggest this statement "All upgrade requests must be submitted no later than midnight Central Standard Time October 13, 2007." be revised to use the GMT as time reference instead of using Central Standard Time which is basically unknown of outside North America.

BTW, good job Dell! 

YAY!!! Finally!! w00t! It'd be nice if there was another choice if we didnt want (OR CANT AFFORD =]  ) the processor. It would be awesome if Dell was offering the H2C cooling unit... or maybe an upgrade to vista ultimate... but I'm not expecting any changes. It must have cost plenty to get this whole program running. But IM EXCITED!!

 What is really nice is that Dell is taking care of customers AFTER a sale. Most companies just sell their item and forget about previous consumers. What Dell is doing is ensuring repeat business (and its working....)

Thanks for the start date.  Many "at-a-boys" to you, to the XPS 700 team, and to Dell to put this mobo exchange program together.  It appears the XPX 720 bugs are worked out and we should have no problems.  I hope your installers are good, will be able to get the new mobo system oprational, and don't cause other problems. 

There still remain two unanswered questions: 1) regarding substitute Quad processor models or Dual core processors at any sort of discount; and 2) what nVidia 680i SLI chipset are we really getting (LT, not LT, original, 680ia, 650i, or what) in the 720 mobo?  Info on the 720 Forum threads indicate it is not as advertised - XPS 700 again?  Your feedback on these will be appreciated.

Lionel, thank you for the update. We will continue to wait (im)patiently. In the meantime, could you please research the warranty issue and let us know what the warranty status of the computers wil be after the mobo exchange?

Dell has strict warranties when it comes to add-on components that did not come with the original build of the system, so we'll need some clarification before we perform the upgrade. It would be nice if the website clearly outlined the policies.

How happy will you be when this motherboard ships! I know you haven't been stalling, unless you like to be sleep deprived! You are doing a great job. It has been a privilege and pleasure to watch you "listen" to customers.

In your previous One Year Anniversary post, you mentioned how you weren't as good as others in pushing out the material. You shouldn't be so hard on yourself. Your kindness, empathy for the customer, and willingness to admit mistakes, is flowing a whole lot faster than what anyone can "publish"!

Customers don't care how much you know. They want to know how much you care.

You are doing at Dell, what all companies should be doing for their customers. I hope that their bloggers are wanting to "be like Lionel"
