Global Commitment to Dell's Direct Model

Thought some Direct2Dell readers might be interested in seeing today’s news

Mike Cannon will lead a newly formed Global Operations organization that integrates all of Dell’s worldwide manufacturing, procurement and supply chain functions. What this means is that Dell will continue to focus on building systems close to customers in each of our nine global manufacturing centers in five countries around the world. Dell will soon add new plants in Poland, India and Brazil.

Mike joins Dell from Solectron, where he was CEO. He will report to Michael Dell, the Chairman and CEO of Dell Inc.

Srinivas,

I know of a C Srinivas who knew how to build his own system.  Assuming that you are not the same person, have you bought the XPS710 and if yes, how easy / difficult has it been to assemble the same?

Srinivas: Thanks for the suggestion. We do offer a BYO model of our most powerful desktop that we offer, the XPS 710. The XPS 710 BYO ships with a motherboard, processor, memory power supply and chassis.

The XPS 710 BYO is targeted at high-end enthusiast users who have historically built their own systems.

I think Dell can sell Unassembled Computer kits to certain segment of customers who are competent to assemble pc themselves. This would give 2 advantages to users.

1.       They can have advantage of a Branded PC with state of the art customer support with an excellent customer experience.

2.       They can system at much more competitive price.

Would be nice if I could order for all my other sites through one dell company instead of having to establish relationships with Dell Hong Kong, Dell Europe, etc..

Seems most of the US folks have no idea how to even contact other dell sales folks in other countries...   Best answer I get is go to Dell.com and find the country that way..

Great, another Michael Dell flunky. Perhaps MD should learn that corporate restructuring doesn't mean firing "ýes" men to replace them with exactly the same characters. The fact that he comes from Solectron is no recommendation. I hope Dell shareholders like losing money.
