First Annual Dell Supplier Diversity Summit

Our efficient supply chain is the engine behind our direct model, in all parts of the world. To attain (and keep) those efficiencies, we rely on a network of component suppliers to help us build all the products we ship today. Last week, Dell hosted our first Supplier Diversity Summit in Austin, Texas. CEO Kevin Rollins kicked off the event that featured about 200 suppliers, corporate customers, and Dell purchasing agents.

The purpose of Dell's Supplier Diversity program is to provide equal access to potential business opportunities for small businesses, small disadvantaged businesses, woman-owned small businesses, veteran-owned small businesses, minority and women business enterprises, and HUBZone businesses (Historically Underutilized Business Zone) to participate as partners and suppliers of goods and services within our corporate supply chain. Year over year, Dell's spending with minority and women business entrepreneurs increased 20%. Earlier this month, Dell moved up to the #2 spot on DiversityBusiness.com's list of top 50 organizations for Multicultural Business Opportunities. We hope our Supplier Diversity program builds on the momentum we've established in the past.

If you are a diverse supplier ready to do business with Dell, please visit this page for lots of detail regarding this program.

This vlog captures some of the highlights of the summit, and features comments from Kevin, from Dave Brown, Dell's vice president of Worldwide Procurement, and from Harriet R. Michael, president of the National Minority Supplier Development Council.

Ying McGuite came to Houston to present to the HMBC Minority businesses interested in going Global. She was well prepared, she answered all the questions, and provided insights into markets and resources we need.

Thank you Ying for the extra effort on behalf of your role with Dell and your leadership in assisting emerging American businesses to succeed in the Global Marketplace.

I just attended the Multicultural Business Conference at the Mirage Hotel, April 2007 in Las Vegas. I must say that Dell proved to be a corporation that not only talks the talk ... they also walk the walk. I also enjoyed your video on this blog. May I have permission to post it to our diversity suppliers blog? It is a great example of a strong supplier diversity program.

I must say kudos to Dell...Your representative Ying McGuire stood above the field and should be commended. Ying spent over an hour after the event closed, on her feet meeting one on one with diversity suppliers, and it was obvious to all, that she has the support of the CEO.

We are diversity suppliers of Telecommunication Services and I was in that line. I don't know if we will wind up doing business with Dell. I do know, that your company has the CEO support that is needed and diversity suppliers will get a fair shake. It was refreshing to speak with Ying who is obviously committed to your program.

Thank you for supporting diversity suppliers,

Frank McGuire
