Storage growth, and in particular the management of that storage, has become an increasingly more complex task for IT staffs. Organizations are pursuing larger and more frequent capital expenditures to accommodate significant annual storage growth rates, yet IT is being asked to maintain current staffing levels.
For their part, Hosting Services Providers offer a cost-effective solution with Storage-as-a-Service for disaster recovery, archiving or just a safety valve for organizations to rent temporary space. When launching a new application service they too, are very sensitive to the management of, and the costs associated with, scaling up storage.
As a Dell Certified Partner, I recently had the opportunity to assess the beta testing results of the Dell EqualLogic PS5500E conducted at long time client and hosting services provider, Sequestered Solutions Alaska (SSA). To support the SSA launch of their new critical DCVault End Point Data Protection service for laptops and desktops, SSA selected the Dell EqualLogic PS5500E high density storage array. During the past month of beta testing the 48TB array has performed as advertised and the new 4.0 firmware continues the tradition of leading the industry in ease of storage management. We found that the PS5500E, and the support team already in place, reinforces Dell’s commitment to lead the industry in iSCSI storage space.
I, like most EqualLogic partners, have been evaluating Dell’s impact on EqualLogic’s product roadmap and business practices. Pricing is predictable and easy to understand. To date, the integration of EqualLogic into the Dell product suite has gone well and I have been introducing additional Dell products to my client base when it makes sense.
Stay tuned for more information about the partnership of Dell, SSA and Rumsey & Associates, Inc. to be posted in an upcoming SSA case study.
