XPS 15 7590, Fan, LEDs, and BIST work, the laptop does not
I have been having some serious issues with my XPS 15 7590 laptop over the past several months, but I got it to work semi-reliably for a while.
However, the other day it shut down unexpectedly, right after I pressed the keyboard LEDkey (F10), and I have not been able to use it since.
Whenever I turn the laptop on, the fans start and the keyboard LEDs turn on, but the screen stays black, with no signs of life. However, when I perform the BIST by holding the D key and powering on the test proceeds properly, with the screen cycling through white, red, green, and blue, but it shuts down afterwards.
I performed a hard reset to no avail, and I tried an external monitor with no luck. What is going on, and how can I fix this?

That built in test only verifies the LCD screen -- not the system. It's not clear what your hard reset was, but it should have included unplugging, removing the base cover and holding the power button for 30 sec, followed by removing and reinstalling the SSD and memory modules. Then try powering up on AC only with the battery disconnected. If the system still won't power up, the mainboard is bad and will need to be replaced.

Thanks ejn63. My hard reset included all that you said, except for the SSD and memory reinstall. I will do that next. As for the power up, I was unable to get any sign of power when the battery was missing but the AC was plugged in, so if this persists after I try the hard reset again then I will know the issue.

@ejn63 thank you. I did another hard reset, this one including removing and reinstalling the SSD and memory modules. I attempted to turn the laptop on with the AC plugged in with the battery out, but got the same result: the LEDs and fan engage, but the system does not power up.
I will look into replacing the mainframe and mark your answer as accepted after that.

I replaced the motherboard and now my laptop is back in action. Thanks.
