D Drive disconnected and System check fails to identify it

I have a situation where my D Drive, with all my data on, 'disappears'.  It has happened twice at least, and a reboot had brought it back. However, this is occurring more often. I ran an online Dell System check - which showed the D drive present (as it was at the time) - but, after a short time the D drive was no longer visible on the machine.  I when back to the open online check scan and ran the correct Hard Drive listed and it was said to have passed. On reopening the Online scan again now the Hard Drive was vanished. Not sure where to start....

You can start with ensuring all your data have been backup externally.

Unplug and discharge flea power from the system.  Open the side panel, reseat SATA power cable and make sure SATA cable connector is connected properly between motherboard and drive D.

Monitoring if the issue occurs again.  Test with connecting drive to different SATA port on motherboard.

@Chino de Oro Thanks for the fast reply. I have removed the side panel (it's as XPS) and removed the little dust that was about. I also checked the leads I could see and again all seemed to be OK. However, when the problem happened yesterday I was opening files from the D drive when I heard a 'Click' from the machine and the D drive vanished. I wondered if something might be overheating or similar.  Normally a restart brings it back but for a variable period of time..... Thanks again.  Mike
