PM893 disks not recognized by H965i/R660

We've been trying to add Dell branded PM983 disks (model number MZ7L33T8HBLTAD3) to some new R660s with PERC H965i and it looks like the controllers don't recognize them. They don't show up in either boot time PERC setup or iDRAC.

We've tried a few things to no avail:

  • updating the PERC firmware to the latest version
  • reseating the disks
  • hard resetting the servers

Are the PM983 disks not supported by this controller model? Is there something we need to do to make them work?

Hello,

Yes it may, although H965i supports NVMe disks(https://dell.to/4a0AhP6), but it is important that it is Dell validated here. Problems may occur on non-Dell disks because they are not recognized on a firmware basis. Although this does not mean that non-certified disks will not work at all, it may cause problems. You have already made the updates I suggested.

Hope that helps!

These disks are not supported and it will not work at all, check the compatible dell disks which support the model and they will work for sure.

@DELL-Erman O I should have mentioned that the disks were purchased from Dell. We'll open a support case.

@Praveen.Singh where can I find the "compatible dell disks"? The disks were purchased from Dell.
